Author Topic: If you have one of these ship saves I will give you $30 for it  (Read 2188 times)

omfg, I remember seeing this, i saved it, but don't know what I did with it, sorry

I think I have the star eagle one, I'll look.

I hadn't thought of a save support site.

Hang on guys, I'm actually whipping something up, we can all use my server as a dedicated place to upload saves to.

I'll let you know the progress of such an endeavour shortly.

There were a few sites like this and none were really used because they weren't integrated in the game. Uploading a save or browsing and downloading them needs to be possible from an easy to use gui in game.

I remember one of the older ones, it didn't get a whole lot of use which meant people didn't know about it and there were very little saves on it, an ingame GUI thats default would probably help but I dont see why badspot cant impliment workshop for it

The problem with a system like this is the abusability.

There needs to be some sort of screening process for maps or it will just be flooded with spam if it becomes popular and available to the public.

That's pretty easy, just add a voting system and moderators.

The real problem is that you can't actually make this system because we don't have any tools to upload the screenshot that comes along with the save. A gallery without images is quite useless.

I've asked badspot about this before and his reply was "would people even use it".

whoa that's a lot of money man are they actually that important to you or
Yes they are that important to me.

Awesome man, I'd be relieved if you have it.

Man those ships have a pretty nostalgic building style. I love it.

this so much

I'm pretty sure I remember RTB showing screenshots in-game, in the mod manager. maybe I'm mistaken, but I know that for a long time I didn't even know there was an actual website, and I doubt I spent all that time downloading addons from RTB without seeing what they looked like

This would be cool. The ability to upload saves from ingame would be super, especially if it was able to simultaneously post a list of installed add-ons. After all, sharing saves is pointless if the recipient doesn't have the right bricks/colorset/events.

If things were to be uploaded from ingame it would definitely need some sort of moderation.

It seems maybe easier to only have uploading from outside the game, but I wonder how many would bother. It's quicker to just push an upload button while playing.

Maybe a better system is an in-game cloud storage service for saves with a website you can access for sharing the saves.

All of your saves get backed up to a cloud server. You can redownload them as necessary.
However, if you go to the website you can make your saves public, or just some of them.
Others can then download them.

There could even be community highlights or editors picks.
I'm just openly brainstorming here.

From everything I can tell it'd be simple.

I just don't know any torque script.

I'll secretly bring this up with Ephi, maybe he could guide me through the process.

You can download images. You can't upload them.

I went through ALL of my saves, turns out I have a LOT of people's spaceships but I only have your Alliance cruiser.
So if you also need that hmu.
