A tall traveller in his early forties cries out in a somewhat busy street of Nazgar. He is speaking in German, but it is clear that by his accent, he is Flemish.
He cries out as he is trying to support his elderly father, who is seeming to have a heart attack. He shouts to city police near him for assistance. People begin to crowd the area, making it difficult for the police to see the situation.
Police attempt to clear the crowd, but by the time they are able to reach the man he is unconscious. One policeman attempts to perform cpr while another finds a physician, but there is little to be done. When the physician arrives, he believes it to be too late for the man, but continues to try to save the man by whatever means he can, and to ease his suffering when the outcome becomes inevitable.
With the Avalonian economy basically back up to snuff, the planned post-depression budget goes into effect. Protectionist measures are to be gradually lifted, as with tax breaks and export tariffs. Plans are made to update and repair existing military and civilian infrastructure in Avalonia, particularly along the Southern Frontier, in response to similar action by its neighbors. Action upon these plans will be taken as funds are raised. In the interim, the Spahen, Avalonia's scouting force, maintains a greater presence in the area.
Former Chancellor Kurt Walter funds research into improved agricultural methods and medicine, the results of which are to be distributed freely to Avalonian farmers and physicians. Several like minded well off Avalonians also help to fund the research.
Since neither Arcon nor the Caliphate seemed interested in building on Avalonia's development of a repeater rifle, work to improve it goes on unaided by foreign expertise.
