I gotta be honest, guys.  I am actually finding updating and constantly following this game to be a tremendous consumption of time and attention.  Frankly, I am seriously considering either dropping the project altogether or passing it off to anyone who I

NPCs will be controlled by mods who don't have their own nations. This is my point.

you can add depth by having mods who don't have their own interests+control various npcs (jairo did ok with this for various reasons) or have mods with countries that cant be interested in doing anything.
Moderators can have nations if they want. There will just have to be checks and balances in the leadership.

The reason Jairo's RPs are successful is because he constantly checks/regulates/responds to everything everyone does, which I can't imagine is fun for him.

this is why i agree. we've seen at least once in this RP why having a game master have a nation is a poor idea, and while i have a somewhat naive trust in people to do the right thing that simply does not happen very regularly. the substitution of an official moderator nation for an NPC isnt really any different and any nation that the moderator has an investment in has an automatic assumed bias regardless of if its true or not. going the third route of saying this moderator's nation doesn't do a lot doesn't help either, since that's just as boring as not having a nation

it is true moderators/admins should have fun too, and that without it threads die, but being above the law isn't fun for the rest of us. my hope is that the next nation forge has many NPCs and the admins/moderators take an even route, playing through various nations and keeping their attachment to each minimal, so as to have good fun and allow good fun to happen

Having no great stake in any nation is just as uninteresting as having no nation, honestly.  I say we have 3 mods, all not allowed to form outright alliances with one another, and each one monitoring another and hostile interactions between the other two.

We could always go the Anagaea I route of no official moderators and collectively call bull on anything going beyond reason, maybe have a rotating mod position for decisions the crowd can't seem to make.  I don't necessarily endorse it, but it's an option.

I heavily suggest doing Imperial-style, "we come from a different realm" Christopher Columbus dominate. Have a bunch of Native NPCs and we can have new nations formed based off (or free of) the nations from here.
Holy stuff this, I'd like to see multiple Indian nations on a completely off-the-map continent that we have to discover

well alright if we're doing new continents or something but still keeping old nations then forget about gruzia-nec still vassalized or w/e cause i'll be using that one country i made

You don't have to use the same nation, but you can.

oh sweet so fravian new world can happen?

Submission No. 12, though.

NPCs will be unlikely.  Plethora, Mikoyan and I have all worked with NPCs before.  One of the reasons Anagaea II fell apart was because there was an entire world with more than 50 nations and mods could not keep up with it.  It was a fun game and it lasted a long time, but it was a tiring and pretty much thankless job.  If anyone is going to control NPCs, they have to guarantee that they have loads of free time and will stick to this thread until it falls apart or ends.

That's why I'm a believer in regional moderation, so nobody has the burdens of the entire map.

I thought it was because it didn't have enough people and half the ones it did have went inactive or entered stasis.

If you do decide to drop this, I could revive Westphalia to give people something to do. The thread is still bumpable.

It isn't being dropped, just revised and restarted. That much is fact.

Heavens no, I certainly wasn't trying to insinuate that this thread should die or that I want it to. A lot of work has gone into it and SWAT has gone above and beyond with it; for that work to be wasted is the last thing I want. WP would likely just fill the time between this and Jairo's next RP.

[Double post for update]
Alright guys, polls are pretty much set in stone. NationForge II will begin in 1800 on a global scale , same timescale, diverse biomes, and will include NPCs. Sorry if your desired settings weren't chosen, I hope it won't keep anyone from joining. Thanks for voting.
