For someone unfamiliar with the US presidential election system, what does this determine?
Does it actually affect which candidate goes on to run for President?
these are contests in each state that lead up to the party convention which determines who the official party nominees will be for the general election
in other words, whoever wins the most delegates in these caucuses/primary elections will be the official party candidate for the Real Showdown
iowa is the first of the states to have their lil contest. new hampshire is next and it uses the primary election system where people actually just straight-up vote (which most states use)
