Author Topic: Iowa Caucus - Democrat: Clinton won Republican: Cruz won -UPDATE-  (Read 11501 times)

these are contests in each state that lead up to the party convention which determines who the official party nominees will be for the general election

in other words, whoever wins the most delegates in these caucuses/primary elections will be the official party candidate for the Real Showdown
So they have caucuses in all the other states, or is it just Iowa that chooses this way?

this sounds dramatiiiccccc

what's it like
well
half of america stumbles out of bed in the bilstering cold to wait in line to vote

It's great until the the latter half when you're tired of getting bogged down by campaign ads. Especially if you got loads of baseless mudslinging a la Obama vs. McCain.

The other half lives in the warm states.

not just iowa, i think the candidates choose which states to campaign in

honestly i wish that every single politician could just shut their asses up jesus christ there is no getting away from these idiots
everywhere i look i see election bullstuff and its gotten to the point where i probably will end up burning anything related to this goddamned election

they started their campaign media frenzy like more than a full year before elections which is just the most stupid thing on the planet
the us should become like all the other reasonable countries on the planet and have these campaigns last like a month

(note: territories don't actually matter in the general election. hilariously, US territories are the only place in the entire universe where you cannot vote in a presidential election as a US citizen)
it varies based on state law but most use primaries where people just vote because that's much easier and faster

to further complicate things there are even different variants on primaries

elections in the US are run by the states individually so you get weird bullstuff like this

it's important to note tho that this part of the election is completely informal, the national government has nothing to do with this. it's purely party-based

Everything in America is a business. You gotta start advertising early to get ahead.

idk about any of you but i think its pretty dumb that america is like this
the whole entire point of a business is to make money
the people in our congress (or the president or any other political figure) shouldn't be giving a stuff about money they should be giving a stuff about making the us a better place
all this lobbying and crap in congress makes me want to burn the whole entire corrupt stuffshow down

Well, it's not necessarily about money, although money takes an unhealthy portion of priority here.
However, I'm talking about publicity. The longer you advertise, the more people know your name and at least a little bit of your position. Just getting people to know your name is the difference between victory and defeat in an election, especially in this country full of uninformed voters.
I imagine a lot of Annoying Orange's votes are coming from people who simply know his name and who he is since he's already pretty famous.

i'm tired of all these goddamn Bushes in politics

why tf are 7 people voting for o'malley like brother he's already dead

you can't "change" your vote in a caucus. everyone votes at the same time, then its counted.

duno what you're referring to but people can change votes up until the point where it's counted. which i guess is equivalent to just saying "you haven't made a choice until you actually make it" but w/eeeaefaef i think the point is that people can deliberate and make a more informed decision right? but ya once it's done it's done
