I'm excited because I really enjoy the TT Lego games, and am a big fan.
At the same time, I am worried about it too.
It's got a release date of June 2016, which means that it's obviously out before the next Star Wars film.
From the information released so far, it is going to include a campaign relating to the story of Episode 7, as well as some story that takes place between Episode 6 and 7 (whether this is canon or not, I don't know).
That's fine, but as it stands, there's very little released material for them to go on. There's only the one film.
And while they can stretch that out decently (they showed this with Lego Hobbit and Lego Jurassic World, the latter of which really stretched out the stories), it still sounds like we're going to have less content than previous games. Lego Star Wars 1 gave us the first 3 films (plus a tidbit of Ep4), while Lego Star Wars: Original Trilogy gave us another full 3 films. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga obviously gave us 6 films total.
Now I am happy to say right now that I do not believe they will release large Add-Ons for the game, with campaign packs for Episode 8, or Rogue One.
They didn't do this with Lego Hobbit and The Battle of the Five Armies, even though they suggested they would.
Lego Star Wars happens to be one of Lego's most popular sets, if not the most popular.
And there's more than enough demand for Lego Star Wars games, hence Lego Star Wars III, which squeezed material out of the Clone Wars TV series.
What this means is that when Episode 8 comes out, there will be a demand for a Lego Star Wars game again.
Same when the Yoda movie, or Episode 9, or the Han Solo movie comes out.
Now, unless they wait for several films to come out before making another Lego game, we may just see several Lego Star Wars games being released over the next few years each with awkwardly little content.
Lego Marvel Avengers just released, and that's pressing more content from the Avengers movies, plus the Captain America and Iron Man films.
It's more of what we have seen before. Yet it's selling for £60.
I don't want to see a Lego Star Wars game being sold every year, or even every other year, at a high price, for little content from the silver-screen.
Basically, Lego TT has a kind of shoddy tendency to jump the gun when it comes to sequels to their popular games.
We had Lego Indiana Jones 2 after the 4th film released, and it included the 4th film, but most of its content was a redesign of the previous games 3 films.
We had Lego The Hobbit, which followed just after their successful and fun Lego Lord of the Rings, but it had 2/3rds the content of any other Lego game, as it was announced and released prior to the 3rd Hobbit film, and they never delivered the last part.
Now we have another sequel to Lego Star Wars, but they're releasing it after only the 1st new film has released, despite their being 5 more films on the way.
