Author Topic: Civilization V multiplayer planning  (Read 1770 times)

Due to the nature of the length of Civ games, its not easy to just up and start one. This thread is hopefully to gather a group of people wanting to play and get together.
There is a couple of problems, the first being timezones and the second being unstability of multiplayer games on high playercounts.

We tried this before, It was fun but no matches were ever finished so I propose that when we do play, we have a competition of say, 3 player free for alls, in a tournament style contest. I would also be willing to add a small prize for the winner.

The No Quitters group on steam who have been doing this a long time have a really nice setup so I'll post some of their links to show what the games will probably be like

Rules:

Civ Drafting (If we are disabling personal picks)

And the basic game layout:
Map Type: Pangea Map
Game Pace: Quick
Game Era: Ancient Era
Turn Mode: Simultaneous
World age: 3 billion
Sea level: Low
Resources: Strat Balance

Turn timer
Pitboss
Quick Movement
Quick Combat

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND CIV GAMES ARE LONG AND CAN TAKE UPWARDS OF 6 HOURS BEFORE WE DO THIS

I want to join, but also don't because civ v games over long distances can get quite unstable and frequently crash or stop due to someone rejoining

I've found this is just usually due to having too many people in a game at once, ping doesnt usually seem to make a huge difference

I was playing LAN in the dorms and had many issues
pretty sure it was from number of players and not distance (farthest person away was in the room next to us, on his desktop)
there were probably at least 10-12 players or so if i'm remembering correctly

Pitboss
wait so are we having 24 hour turns and playing the game over spans of months or...?

maxwell and i were playing with just 1-2 other people when the game started becoming unplayable so

It just makes the game more stable when someone disconnects and tries to rejoin, hopefully people will try to get the games over quickly that 6 hours will be an overestimate.

I think 9 would be a good number to start planning dates on, that way we can have three 1v1v1, and each winner it can play against eachother.

somehow you didnt even manage to spell the game you want to play right
