oh yeah isn't there like a forgetton of army forts and bases there too that the USA owns

Yeah how would this work
What's stopping the government from just ordering the soldiers stationed there to take control of the surrounding areas and expand outward? Who would stop them? The police? I just don't understand how you could secede this day and age and get away with it.

Texas and California would do great as individual countries. They're already wealthy and basically seperate from the rest of the united states, and Texas has had it's own government before. Let's not forget they can still trade with the united states and they won't be restricted by the bounds of the US and the people have WAYYYY more say of what happens in them, and if anything bad happens they won't represent the country and people can immigrate back to the US.
The interesting thing is that if I remember correctly, there's a stipulation somewhere that Texas can, at any time, split into 5 states. Which I've always thought was interesting.

i think we're talking about if they left peacefully

Holy stuff, turns out this is actually partly true. Check this out: http://www.snopes.com/history/american/texas.asp

If California were to secede what would stop us from simply rolling in with the army and... idk, taking it back?
It would operate the same way the Civil War did. From the perspective of the federal government, states cannot secede. Lincoln's position was that secession was unconstitutional, so none of the states actually left. After the Civil War, the Supreme Court officially made it unconstitutional.

So yeah, they'd roll in and kick the rebels out.

This is a genuine question, are there any protections for seceding states or are they just out on their own
This is what the Civil War was about to some extent. No matter what a state is not allowed to secede from the union, and if one tries it's just considered treason or something.

if california or texas tried to secede from the us forcefully (i'm just assuming theres no way itd happen peacefully) then they'd get crushed in morale and army size, and thered be mass casualties both ways
a land war with a superpower like america would be extremely destructive

now that i think of a big state what about alaska?

now that i think of a big state what about alaska?

Only 10 people live in Alaska soooo

Only 10 people live in Alaska soooo

how about say that again when drew skube guts your eyes out you cheeky little midget

alaska wouldn't actually do too awfully bad. i think canada and russia would be pretty willing to buy oil and fish from them in exchange for everything they need, and down south it isn't terribly freezing
