ya. the police force does not need military equipment. using military equipment should be an extreme case, not "just a precaution"
To play devil's advocate, should the situation call for an MRAP to be used, how quickly could the police department expect to receive and deploy it? I should think that the training could take at least a few days to train officers on how to use it correctly and safely, and that's to say nothing of how long it would take to ship it to whatever riot is currently ongoing. If police are going to have these at all, it makes the most sense for them to have them before they're needed.

imo that would only escalate things
i think the national socialists can handle that themselves
i'd rather have the government spend money on things that are useful, not a million dollar vehicle meant to withstand mine blasts and assault weapons, both of which are almost never in play on us soil
they already spent the money on them, why not put them to use?

if its anything like humvees you could learn how to do basic maintenance and operations on one in an hour

Not really, I don't see how a police presence would've escalated the situation. The only reason either side is emboldened to attack is a lack of fear of consequences. The police being there and ready to arrest and beat the piss (within reason, of course, you know what I mean) out of anyone trying to stir up trouble would've ended stuff real quick.

military vehicles arent basic humvees lol

and police arent really trained to utilize heavy vehicles effectively. having an mras on the street is nothing like a cruiser. only swat would probably be experienced enough with heavy vehicles to know what to do properly without putting people at risk, and if they get called to deal with protestors that inevitably and assuredly will escalate things badly

if a riot gets so bad that an armored SWAT van is not enough, then I think that it would be necessary to call in the national guard. putting military equipment into the hands of a non-military force is asking for something stupid to happen.

what
WHAT
you do know what a humvee is, right?

do you know what you're even talking about? driving a humvee/armored vehicle safely isn't that difficult, dude
if you're referring to the use of the vehicle in some sort of crowd control tactics, yeah, i'd agree with you, but i don't think anyone here is calling for mraps to replace police cruisers

by law the national guard can only do so much in situations like this. i have a pamphlet around here in my room somewhere i could probably show you
do understand the kind of units that would even respond to something like this are MP units and they receive similar if not the same training civilian police forces get when it comes to crowd control and things like that

Maybe for something like that, sure. But an MRAP is fairly unique in that it's forgetin heavy as stuff, you sit really high up, and you can't see very well out of it.

It would be a loving MESS if someone were to be accidentally run over with one of these things. That isn't a risk you want to take in a sensitive situation (for example, a riot or protest which can easily explode in into violence). I'll admit that I don't know too much about these vehicles, but (and don't laugh too much) I can't see stuff out of the Arma 3 MRAP. That thing is based on the M-ATV, which is very similar to the one in the picture, except the MATV has BETTER visibility.

That's basically why I think that having these are a bad idea. It's a potential liability unless you have it on good authority that you're gonna be driving around landmines and RPGs. Maybe a Humvee or a similar militarized vehicle would fit the role better, being that they're more durable than a standard cop car and have a similar intimidating effect.

also it's a huge waste of money. thats like buying teddie roosevelt's double barrel shotgun just to hunt a deer. why not just buy a regular ass shotgun and not a $800,000 one?

i dont see any IEDs or tank-shredding mines being deployed in loving berkely or charlotteville.... so whats the point of using a loving mine-resistant jeep?
