You complain and bitch and moan about the
evil leftists so much, but you are part of the goddamn problem in American politics right now. No debate, no nuance, just black-and-white agreeing or you're struck down by insults or stereotypes. You're the reason that our country is so divided right now, and you fail to admit it because you cannot ever be wrong and everyone who disagrees is obviously dumber than you.
I could easily ask you this:
"Oh, healthcare has significant differences than how the auto insurance market is handled? Could you please explain to me what they are, I'm not sure I know where you're coming from."
How are you to respond to this? Are you going to shrug off people, especially those you encounter face-to-face, as "communists" or "libtards" and just tell them they are a waste of time? That's nice, say hello to more team-based politics and the pendulum automatically swinging back and forth nonstop in future elections. Nothing will get solved when
record percentages of hostility towards the opposite party keep getting beaten.
How about open up discussion, instead? Challenge that
part of your mind that instantly barricades you from people differing from your beliefs. That person might give you the opportunity to lay out your beliefs. Even if people come out of arguments unchanged on their views, maybe they can gain a deeper understanding of the other person's perspective. Who knows, that may strengthen your
own arguments. At the very least, you gave someone the time of day instead of just slinging mud at them.
Political views are also not just governed by researched, dammit. They are also
dictated by personal experiences. There may be a lot more to the way a person perceives the world, and to simply just dismiss a discussion of politics as a complete waste of time is complete hubris.
I most likely didn't change your opinions with what I wrote out at all, but you should remember how divided politics already is. You're not helping.
