if there was a civilian

they would have shot back

and would have had a statistically higher chance of survival, although that may or may not be negated by whether or not they exposed themselves to shoot Omar "Frag the cigarettes" Mateen

obviously not a club, but a police officer shot two heavily armed terrorists, significantly hindering their ability to carry out their planned attack. The only dead were the two terrorists. The man they attempted to kill survived, albeit wounded.

Considering one man with a handgun was able to stop an attack that would have likely killed dozens of people, I would think that perhaps there could have been a chance of incapacitating the Orlando shooter.

a police officer
Considering one man
not really your average man...... a cop, trained specifically to be able to act in such a scenario, is hard to compare to a regular civilian

I would imagine that the mandatory training required to purchase a handgun and semi-regular range practice would have a similar effect. Heavily armed terrorists in body armor aren't really in anyone's list of "things I might see today," but it doesn't mean that a civilian with proper training and practice is completely ineffective.

They'd teach you basic firearm safety for sure but self-defense seems like it would be an optional thing, like "if you ask we'll teach you" kind of thing, and it would probably very basic unless you wanted to pay to have more courses.
Police training would be a lot more in-depth, cover a lot more material and you have a much higher bar for quality given that if they couldn't pass it they wouldn't be a cop.

Disclaimer: Never have owned a gun.

The other main difference I can see is that police obviously are in more situations on a day-to-day basis that would require them to draw and possibly use their weapon, so training likely would focus more on the "when" than "if" for police.

The mandatory training here (CT) is mostly safety stuff, but almost every gun owner I know took a defense course and practices at the range. This likely doesn't hold true for other areas, though.

I'm lucky to have a gun collector like my father. He's taught me proper use of a rifle, pistol and shotgun. Most people won't have that same privilege.

Is she guilty? New poll.

And equally important -- if you think she's guilty, do you think she will actually be indicted?

she's guilty, won't be indicted

you might as well make the no option "im handicapped"
