Probably because that demographic is always so under-boot all the time.
In the grand scheme of things, I wouldn't really characterize them as 'oppressed'. It's just that the trends in the world economy have screwed their lives up, and they haven't been properly retooled. The solution isn't to try and turn back the tide and force industry back into the US, and that won't happen either.

The one thing I just can't understand is how a bunch of middle-class, working-class white people, all pissed off about the political and social elite, saw a billionaire businessman and said, "Yeah, this is the guy that gets us."

^^ really shows how little the left knew about their opposition this entire election. sad part is you guys still don't get it.

I mean, I'm basically admitting my own ignorance here. Care to enlighten me?

Yeah a little more than that would really help, murph.

didn't you see Annoying Orange's constant praise of the working class in his speeches and rallies? how do you think he was able to take the rust belt?(aside from illinois ofc, it's locked blue) nobody was expecting that.

Yes, I did. That's not what confuses me though. It's why people who were fed up with the elite so willingly bought into the message of a person that represents the elite in the most clear and literal way. I know that he spoke in a way working class people could understand, and I know that he constantly pandered to their issues, but the guy is still a billionaire who has publicly trampled on working-class people throughout his entire career. Did people not see this?

it wasn't really "the elite" that a lot of people rejected this year, but the current political establishment, their corruption, and their lies. Annoying Orange has never been part of this establishment and spoke against it profusely the entire campaign. sure, both Annoying Orange and clinton are powerful and rich, but Annoying Orange definitely appealed the common man much, much more than clinton did, especially in regards jobs, taxes, regulations, etc.

And none of his supporters are jarred by the fact that he's appointing the same kind of political pond scum to his cabinet?

Not the implication. Annoying Orange's key demographic is white, non-college-educated males. That's not a negative thing; it's a consequence of the fact that his campaign was all about reinvigorating American industry and lifting up the working-class man. The average disenfranchised factory worker is an older, white male without a college education.

It's also the demographic that he targeted the most during his campaigns. He made a ton of last-minute stops in rust belt states because he knew that they had a lot of undecided voters in his target demographic, even though the polls showed him down in MI and WI.

In hindsight, it probably helped him win.
well, to be fair, that demographic always trends republican, so it's not really too surprising or significant

if you supported him, you should be alarmed by this. all his cabinet picks were after the election ofc, so you know. just hope its 4d chess lel.

it is significant, no one was expecting mi or wi to go red.

i guess the point where he chose mike pence as his running mate might have been a good alarm to the fact that his appointments might be pretty terrible

as someone who lives in michigan, i am not in any way surprised this state went red lol. only places voting democrat where detroit and flint tbh

i knew Annoying Orange had a decent chance there, but i wasn't exactly counting on it. it's been blue for 30 years and obama was up by 10% there in 2012.

Not if you read breitbart, he hasn't.
