illegal immigrants bypass background checks, but yes, you are right that those coming through the legal process will be checked. The reason a wall is needed is to make it difficult for people to enter the country illegally, bypassing all of the safeguards in place.
And I understand that viewpoint too. People there should go through the process like the rest of the world. They shouldn't receive special treatment. And it's easy to say that when looking at them from a political standpoint as nothing more than a +1 to our population.
But I didn't really think about it until now. That is,
why they do it in the first place. If the legal process is long and arduous, then maybe someone would hop over the border to avoid going through the effort. But - and correct me if I'm wrong - you can get potentially jailed or even shot from doing so. And aren't there fences with barbed wire, with security dogs too? Is avoiding the process really worth risking your life or health? I don't really know exactly how difficult it is to pass without hiding in someone's trunk (and I'm not even sure if that's a thing) but, the bottom line is it can't possibly be that easy.
So why? ...To escape poverty, maybe to escape abuse from another where the law failed to step in? Or just to seek a better life, free from poverty? Even if it wouldn't be much better? Maybe to find more safety from the aforementioned crime in Mexico, especially if you have kids. Or maybe to see a loved one. And of course, some people go over for less morally correct reasons, but those are a minority, and likely to be caught eventually anyway. And the bottom line here is that people are desperate. You have to really be in deep stuff to do something like that, physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise.
So why kick them out? Welcome them. I agree that they should go through the process, but we should let them do so through a method and pace that's a little more open and a little less strict. Help them believe that we're their friends, and they'll cooperate more often. No,
we need to become friends with them. Distrust is a terrible thing. More than likely, it's the whole reason they left home in the first place. We need to see minorities less as that and more as people, because that's what they are. That's what we are. We're all the same, so why look at them as though they're animals?
And I accidentally went off on a tangent again. forget. But like, I never actually had a view on the issue before now. A perfect world is impossible, but we've gotta at least try. Maybe even help Mexico with their crime somehow and circumvent the fear of it back at home. Maybe. I can dream a little. But that's why I won't ever run for president.
