I don't really care if they're national socialists as long as they aren't assaulting anyone, which is why I oppose him getting punched out for no discernable reason. Assaulting people is illegal. Being a national socialist is not illegal. Words and ideas are not considered violence under law, nor should they be, for obvious reasons. How so? Who are these ignorant people who've never heard of national socialist ideology and sees one getting smacked and says "Wowee, this guys on to something?" People get into racial superiority because they're selfish and immoral people, not because they think they're getting in on some secret - although I'll concede that that's a part it.

It'd be different if it were some unknown group getting violently suppressed, but everyone has heard of the national socialists. Everyone takes history classes. Everyone knows about WW2 and national socialist Germany and the Holocaust and all that. Nobody who wasn't already massively biased towards racial supremacy is going to swayed by an incident like this.

the whole national socialist thing is a weird problem. i don't like the idea of people getting assaulted for their beliefs, but i also firmly believe that national socialists should not and cannot be allowed to feel safe in public spaces. it's a classic case of the paradox of tolerance. as things stand it appears they feel safe enough to appear in public, with no masks, proudly preaching their beliefs, and that's a bit frightening to me. if they expect to be able to publicly announce and spread an inherently intolerant and oppressive ideology and go back to a peaceful working life the next day, then they've frankly been given too much. attacking and defaming them may make them more firm in their beliefs, but if they're legitimately stigmatized, the ideology is effectively squashed from mainstream discussion. defending these people encourages them and gives them an opportunity to inch the overton window slowly in their favor, and that can't be allowed to happen. if you're concerned that i'm being intolerant towards people due to their beliefs, i am, because i don't want to live in a society that's willing to entertain supremacist ideology
