But there's still a huge difference proportionally. If Bill Gates lost 20% of his net worth right now, he could still live very comfortably, and probably wouldn't impact his life all that much. If a poor person loses 20% of their net worth, they're forgeted.

bill gates already pays millions and millions in taxes already

so you really think that there are rich people who would voluntarily let themselves be taxed more? aren't tax havens around just so rich people can avoid paying what they're already supposed to?

Alright, but that doesn't mean it's fair to just tax people cause they have more money. That's dumb. Let them have the option to do so as they wish.
Or, you could have a more efficient economy and higher living standards by reducing the living standards of the rich by a negligible amount, and using that money to increase the living standards of the poor significantly.

and also gives them money to acquire oil spread freedom around the world
i guess i should add, ideally*

To build on that, if you cut Bill Gates' net worth in half right now he'd still have more money than 99.9% of the US population

You can blame the existence of tax havens on a lack of regulation, so there's that

Yes, there are rich people who have actually stated they want the taxes raised on themselves - which is loving dumb because they can just donate money at will
And tax havens shouldn't exist

Or, you could have a more efficient economy and higher living standards by reducing the living standards of the rich by a negligible amount, and using that money to increase the living standards of the poor significantly.

Except we live in a capitalist system where you get what you can buy
And there's no reason we should LOWER the living standards for anyone if they can afford it
That is stupid
Stop it with the commie stuff

that's the thing, if someone has 10 billion dollars and they lose 5 billion, their living standards aren't any lower.

that's the thing, if someone has 10 billion dollars and they lose 5 billion, their living standards aren't any lower.

It's still their money that you're trying to rob from them simply for being richer than you

oh, really? do you have any names? a wikipedia page should suffice, and I imagine most multi-millionaires would have one.

is-ought fallacy
"because we live in X system, X system is right"

Again, you're saying something will definitely happen but you have absolutely no credibility here. Unless you elaborate as to why it would lower the living standards, why should anyone agree with you?

To build on that, if you cut Bill Gates' net worth in half right now he'd still have more money than 99.9% of the US population

99.9% of the US population didn't create the world's most widely-used operating system

You can blame the existence of tax havens on a lack of regulation, so there's that

the solution to everything is always more government

It's still their money that you're trying to rob from them simply for being richer than you

What makes it robbery, exactly? Do you even pay taxes?

It's still their money that you're trying to rob from them simply for being richer than you
simply because they're so rich that they will never possibly use all their money and they could easily afford to live their lives with 100th or less of their salary. If you've got people starving and without a home and multibillionaires is it really so radical to say maybe they should give up a little more?

and it's still not robbery. it's taxes.

It's still their money that you're trying to rob from them simply for being richer than you
it's not "robbing them because they're richer", it's taxing them more because they can afford it. if you want to look at it a different way, say the default rate is 50% and it's just lowered for people who can't afford 50%
