Author Topic: My psychologist diagnosed me with Depression AMA  (Read 2823 times)

I've recently went to my therapist because I have a lot of things going on in my life currently that I need to talk to someone about. Part of my therapy is seeing a psychologist for medicine every once and a while. He saw fit that I had all the symptoms of Depression and now I have to take a pill everyday. Ask me anything, Idk.

Do you have any suicidal or self harming thoughts?

do you get more depressed thinking about how you have depression?

Do you have any suicidal or self harming thoughts?
Nope. This is one of the things I never understood though. I can understand why some people with depression can have suicidal thoughts, but I can't understand self harm. How would making yourself feel more pain solve your problems?

do you get more depressed thinking about how you have depression?
Not when I think about having depression, more of just thinking about the things that are causing my depression.

do you feel sad and hopeless or do you not feel any emotion at all

goodluck friend if u need some help PM me

do the pills help you, or do they have no effect?

You often can't even tell when you're talking to the person face to face

Some people with depression have this thing called dissociation, where everything sort of stops being 'real'. The best way I've heard it described is that what you're seeing looks like a video game or something you're viewing through a computer screen rather than actual life.

What accompanies this is sort of a really uncomfortable desensitization to everything, including pain. In order to cope with it, some people cause themselves pain, which they can still feel if it's heavy enough.

You can't tell emotion over text.

It's more of like a void most of the time. Back when I had my first experience with depression right after my great grandmother passed away I felt like I saw the world in black and white and I pretty much just moped around feeling hopeless.

Alright.
do the pills help you, or do they have no effect?
They help me get through the day. Usually they keep me calm and in a pretty neutral/good mood or state.

are you gay
Im biloveual yes.

1) What are the side effects of said pill
2) You often can't even tell when you're talking to the person face to face
1) They change how I act/my personality in a way. Though this can be a good thing. When I'm off the pill I can get really emotional or pissed VERY easily. With the pill I'm more mellow and take things less seriously.
2) This. Talking to my psychologist I was pretty calm. Though when I answered his questions he saw that I was going through it. I remember a few questions out of probably 20 being "Do you feel anxious abruptly through the day or at all?" and "Do you ever feel an overwhelming emotion through out the day? Does it cause you to not want to do certain activities or become less social?"

Good that it works for you. I'd keep watch though, over time it may (or may not) take a tole on you
