Author Topic: My computer is upgrading to windows 10 without consent.  (Read 9503 times)

I'd suggest cancelling it. Windows 10 is basically spyware at this point. If it's too late to cancel it, just find the revert back option once it's installed finally and download GWX control panel from here which will completely stop any windows 10 related programs from running: http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/
I'm pretty sure Win10 is an operating system

I'm well aware that it's an operating system, software can have more than one classification.

if you think windows 10 is spyware you need to re adjust your tin foil hat

although windows 10 is just generally stuff

It's by definition spyware. It's sending information from your computer to a server without your consent. There are things it sends even if you 'turn all the privacy settings'.
Now, I'm not saying it's sending any information with malicious intent, but it's till by definition, spyware.

The real issue though, probably isn't Microsoft getting this data. If Win10 is allowing this data to be sent without any consent, then malware could just as easily redirect this information.

From their privacy policy:

I really wish I could be so naive to think that a multi-billion dollar multinational corporation wouldn't be involved in datamining their customers. Everyone and their mother's doing it now because there's so much money to be made off of it.

This as well.

Actually, if they state it then it's not spyware. They have your consent when you accept that stuff.

When it installs without consent, what did you even accept?

Oh please, maybe from a purely legal standpoint but the percentage of the population that actually reads privacy policies and fully understands them is so small I could probably count them on my fingers.

And the OS is still installing without your permission.

Takes about an hour of forced upgrades just for me to revert back for another hour.

I wasn't talking about that, but yeah that is pretty BS.

Even if windows 10 was completely free of any and all problems it's still incredibly scummy of Microsoft to keep secretly installing it.

My computer was off by the loving way and it booted itself up.

weren't you supposed to go into the control panel and uncheck something like "download system updates the same way as regular ones" or whatever
