Not sure anyone can justify this behavior. It's not warranted. If someone is depressed the last thing you want to do is encourage it. If he's feeling neglected and he learns that this is the only way he can get attention then he will most likely continue. If you really want to help him just try talking to him instead of being an starfish.

That being said INH, you need to talk to someone irl like a school counselor or someone who can help you.
