Author Topic: Apparently the high school I went to is putting in gender neutral bathrooms.  (Read 8566 times)

Are we going to teach our children how to dig gender-specific holes when they need to go whilst in the forest?

ITT: "straight" pre-teens feign outrage at gender issues.
I'll say it again.

Not even real outrage at the event itself, just rage at people that aren't like you.

ah, I got that - thanks - but what I'm saying is that there's only four "gender neutral" kids in the school, so why do you need four bathrooms and not like one

but yeah, extra bathrooms in general is always a good thing, I hate using the restroom with other kids regardless so
why not make 4? if anyone can use them they probably just want there to be more bathrooms to be available to everyone.

here's a good idea:

1 male, 1 female bathroom
1 handicapped / unilove bathroom.

everyone is satisfied unless lgbt movement demands specific names, which is just dumb. they are calling them 'gender neutral' just to try and gain brownie points with modern day political correctness, probably.

i don't think the name is pandering at all
they are bathrooms that are NEUTRAL of gender
they are not for people who are "gender neutral" (is that even a thing?)
hence gender neutral
I'll say it again.

ikr. this forum is insane sometimes
granted i feel like even a lot of gay/bi people here are starfishs about gender issues

keep 2 bathrooms but just change the signs from girl and boy to vagina and snake

I'm not trying to argue with you, and I think that the more restrooms, the better. Labelling them "gender neutral," though, just seems a little excessive (for four bathrooms). I would like to hear a "universal" restroom, but specifically calling it "gender neutral" or anything related to "gender" seems tad too much - and don't get me wrong, I'm not against it, but you also have to worry about the interactions of kids when they see others in the restroom, etc

gender neutral is exactly what it is...

Why are you beating around the bush with "universal"?

Why are you beating around the bush with "universal"?

The way kids / staff address it, other students could take it as a "omg let's make fun of the gender neutral kids" where if it was "universal" then nobody would care

Gender neutral kids? What the forget are you talking about?

Or you could just punish the kids making fun of them like you would any other bullying case

He's paraphrasing.

yez

because the term "gender neutral" has nothing to do with divergent gender identities. it exactly means "universal" in this context

it is just a bathroom that anyone can use and the name it uses doesn't imply anything differently. your hesitation about lefty ideas is the only reason you're still fighting this

This same kind of logic could be used to say "Don't talk about gay people at all in school, people might make fun of them."
It's just stupid. You have to be able to talk about things for society to move on.

Or you could just punish the kids making fun of them like you would any other bullying case

Yeah, that'd work, but I just feel there could be some ways to at least help prevent it.

Gender neutral kids? What the forget are you talking about?

My bad, I go to a school where several kids identify as "gender neutral" - I meant any gender, or moreover male/female/trans/neutral

because the term "gender neutral" has nothing to do with divergent gender identities. it exactly means "universal" in this context

Again, I have many friends that identify themselves as "gender neutral" and I apologize - I feel that the word I am looking for is "agender" - I meant it as absent of gender, uncaring of gender - which I have no problem with at all. I don't oppose any gender identity or expression, I just feel that other kids would and I feel the whole reason these restrooms exist is to eliminate unwanted social confrontation.

Yeah that's fair I suppose

To be honest, im confused as to why people are mad/upset about this. As long as I have my male bathroom I don't care if there are gender neutral bathrooms and I don't see why anyone else should. The only counter I can think of is that it's a waste of money which is fair enough, but that really isn't our problem.
