See that's the thing, I already get what you are talking about and I can understand what you mean in one short and succinct post, that you think that tribal jokes aren't harmless jokes. The problem you ran into is that you droned on too long about your point and ended up getting caught up in a bunch of meaningless bullstuff that detracted from the overall message and like always in pointless internet arguments it became increasingly difficult to decipher exactly what the forget you're talking about
I don't necessarily disagree with your point, I just think you're approaching it from the wrong angle. Everyone is definitely being an starfish over the black jokes but I found them initially funny because of the audacity of the statement and it's ironic nature made them funny to me. Humor's subjective and there are no limits, after all. In a perfect world we would be debating why somebody is objectively an starfish and I think for the first half of the thread people were, it's just that nobody takes things that seriously and they probably shouldn't anyways.
But people weren't making the jokes "because racisms". I don't think any majority of people here legitimately dislike or distrust path over his skin color. The reason why the joke proliferated so quickly is for a different reason:
Here's why the joke proliferated.
The joke kept going because different people wanted to incite the same positive response that others were getting from making said joke. It received a great deal of good attention and people like getting attention. I guess unfortunately Path gets the lesser part of the deal because he's the butt of the joke but from what I saw in the thread he was able to take it in stride rather than get caught up about it and argue with people over stupid bullstuff for 90 pages before the thread gets locked and several people get banned because nobody can be wrong ever
All the "droning on" I've been doing has been me defending myself and the way I argued. I think
this was the longest post I made about racism. Look at my
post history. Everything before this
big post was about that stuff, and the stuff after it is the meta-argument. My original point was stated pretty succinctly. In defending myself I did write a lot more though.
My argument was never that the jokes proliferated "because racisms". I was just pointing out that they shouldn't make those jokes, because tribal jokes tend to proliferate racism, regardless of the intentions of the guy saying the joke.
