Author Topic: PSA: Closing the "Upgrade to Windows 10" box now counts as ACCEPTING the update  (Read 3937 times)

Out of complete fear that the Win10 update will brick my $1500 PC Build if I get Win7, I'm just going to get Win10 anyways to avoid that occurring at all.

I would use Linux but pretty much every game I play on Steam doesn't have Linux support so welp Microsoft, looks like I'm using your stuffty spyware OS, not because I want to, but because you forced me to.

greedy forgets.

i have no idea how computing information in the physical world works
do you have any idea how it works in the software world

I've found that WINE works very well nowadays. I've only found one game that I couldn't get to work.

screw soviet russia jokes, in australia...

can confirm this stuff just happened to two computers in my house. You have to wait an hour of it loading stuff just so you can click 'go back to windows 7' and then spend ten minutes trying to delete everything to do with the windows 10 update box

From my experience, Windows 10 is fine as long as you perform a clean install. Upgrades have worked for me as well.

I think the majority of people who are actually encountering technical problems with the Windows 10 upgrade have hardware with drivers that the manufacturers have refused to update and are not compatible with Win10.

I'm just hoping this will pay off and force people to upgrade their PCs. It worries me how old some of the active tech in the world is, and in a lot of cases the need for compatibility is what holds back developers from making really cool things.

ya man i just love forcing people to spend money on stuff they dont need it feels so nice to inconvenience them

Yeah man, I sure do love it when people stick with their copies of Windows XP and Microsoft Office 2003 claiming that it "just works", especially when you need to send them files with formatting from the newer versions and the backwards compatibility breaks that. Or when you want to help them run a game or a tool but those systems can't make use of anything above DirectX 9 and VC++4.

I'm not talking about people on a recent-ish system that can happily run Windows 7 or up. I'm looking at people who've stubbornly refused to let 13 years of change do anything to their system and still expect to be able to do everything.

that sounds like their problem. not yours, and not microsoft's

do you have any idea how it works in the software world
maybe

but on a physical level no

like, moving electrons? or something? it is a mystery

wait what os was it running on originally

Why not just upgrade? I haven't noticed any extreme bugs despite having the OS since it was released
