Author Topic: What is your opinion on Abortion  (Read 12104 times)

First of all I hate people against abortion and stem cells for religious reasons. There is so far no existence or proof of god, your religion is getting in the way of progress.

The dead aborted babies are just rotting anyways, useless. They would be more useful for stem cell research which these pro-life friends insist we do not experiment on.

There is 7 billion people on this loving planet, we don't need more people. Stem cell research would benefit the people already alive, which should be our main focus. Stem cell research is making lives better for people already alive. Why should we keep bringing in life into this world with how stuffty it is now?

We should perfect stem cell research so we can develop cures for all these diseases, then start bringing more life into this world by little.

Oh here we go with the edgy anti-religion act.

Anyone that has been mentally tortured enough that they're now just a shell of their former selves

???

legit dude what are you talking about, i dont get how this links to the title or OP... or current conversation

How so?  You're far from a QED.

Terri Schiavo is a prime example.

A lot of people seem to think abortion is just like, flushing a toilet or some stuff, and the mother just suddenly becomes 'not pregnant'. That's not the case. It's can be a very invasive surgery, stuff ain't loving fun, no woman uses abortion as a form of contraception. They use it as a last resort when all other forms of contraception have failed and they are now pregnant with a baby that they cannot raise, or might even kill them. I believe in the right to abort your fetus, up to a certain stage. Once you find out you are pregnant you should make it your top priority to decide whether or not you will birth your child. If you leave it to a certain stage where the fetus is becoming more than just some cells/an egg, it should be assumed that you have made the (legal) decision to birth your child (unless the pregnancy becomes life threatening)

Nobody likes abortion. Realistically, you cannot tell people what to do with their own bodies. If you refuse a desperate woman an abortion, they may take drastic/desperate measures, which will be far less human than a clinical operation.

It should totally be allowed, but the husband should definitely have some say in the matter before the baby is aborted.

This ultimately opens an avenue to abuse. IMO, if the husband wants an abortion and the wife does not, he shouldn't have to pay child support. If he wants the child and she aborts it, he should be compensated. But you can't tell someone whether or not they will give birth.

I think abortion is murder, tbh
But I don't care if people perform abortions the same way I don't care that people murder each other.

If I had to pick an opinion on abortion it's that I don't have an opinion on abortion at all.

Oh here we go with the edgy anti-religion act.

Religion has been impeding technological advancement and science since the dawn of time. Sure it was great when our greatest technology was a pointy stick but it's time to move on.

It's amazing how there was all these religious miracles before the age of technology, now here we are. The current year of 2016 and there has not be one single religious miracle. Unless you count Jesus showing up on a piece of toast.

So now we have a potential way to cure cancer, help burn victims, cure diseases. All with the help of stem cells and religious zealots are like "no you can't do this, it's playing god!!!!!!!!!" So we should suffer and not cure diseases because it's all apart of "god's plan?"

These dead aborted stem cells will just waste away if we don't use them. What are we going to do with them? Dress them up and pretend our little child never died? (yes people have actually loving done this.)

It's a waste of perfectly good stem cells, they would benefit humanity better if used for science.

It's like people who choose not to be an organ donor for religious reasons. What good will your organs do in the afterlife?

I am not an organ donor but not because of religious reasons. Shifty doctors will prematurely pronounce you dead just to harvest those organs.

i know it isn't the actual topic, but i agree with tony; fetal stem cells need to have a place in medical science. they have far too much potential in medicine to make them a taboo.

If you leave it to a certain stage where the fetus is becoming more than just some cells/an egg, it should be assumed that you have made the (legal) decision to birth your child (unless the pregnancy becomes life threatening)
i think this makes sense, but there are also definite cases where abortion would not be an option until later on in the pregnancy, eg because of financial barriers or because of living conditions that make it an impractical decision

Also we need to consider population control. Some areas of the world have too many people and little space.

If we keep going at this rate we'll have 10billion people in like 10 years.

Terri Schiavo is a prime example.
That was a legal case.  Ultimately the judge has to make an arbitrary decision, and does not impact retroactively or continuously the definition of life.

Again,
Name one thing that is not alive that has both [a brainwave and a heartbeat].

Religion has been impeding technological advancement and science since the dawn of time. Sure it was great when our greatest technology was a pointy stick but it's time to move on.

I agree with you.  Virtually every single religion has interfered with the development of proper science.  I suggest buying the book The Two Babylons (the newest edition) and giving that a read.

I am religious myself, but I believe in the existence of God through a scientific viewpoint.  Quantum physics and M-theory have convinced me as much.

I think stem cells should be used to cure cancer, cure diseases, help burn victims etc since the cells are blank slates that have not been programmed yet.  God is not anti-science but pro-science.  Simply because misguided human religions have painted a false picture of him does not mean that his characteristics have to adhere to human hearsay.  Why would he want to prevent humanity from developing their own complex systems?  He does not.  The Bible itself prophesied that man would dominate himself to their own demise, including religions.

Anyway, I'm not going to go into another "debate", but keep in mind that a good opinion is one that has been formed through years of research and meditation.
