Avoiding confrontation by playing things off as a joke or redirecting the blame by saying "you do/did X!"

I'm guilty of doing damage control myself in the past, but I think that it's best to own up to your mistakes and confront criticism with the goal to improve. it comes from a constructive place

It's a bit more of just a general internet culture that dates back even to IRC channels, but roostery forum veterans who act like their seniority gives them the authority to treat everyone like stuff. What follows along this mentality is their pretentious contest to see who's the most misanthropic and jaded, like there's some reward to being a 20-something starfish who can't enjoy things
