Author Topic: Oklahoma Food Company recalls over 372,000 lbs of Hot Dogs & Corn Dogs  (Read 15314 times)

What the hell? I'm not calling you fat dude, chill out.

This is what's formerly known as "testing the waters". How could you take it any way than how I originally interpreted in my head?!?

The only insecure person here is you, and by jove are you.

Users write stuff like "another reason to switch to pc/mac/linux/xbox/ps" all the time. Nobody cares then, but god forbid a vegan post.

It's because nobody is insecure about their console, but loads of people are insecure about their diets. I don't know why.
the smiley face is definitely a major part of the reason why it set people off. it makes it less viable to interpret as a joke and a lot more viable to interpret as a snarky, semi-pretentious drive-by statement in a context where it'd be flippant and unprompted. anyone who would speak with that cadence in a situation like that would attract negative attention. people do get stuff all the time for saying things like "get a new PC" or "switch to windows" when people have computer problems, but at least it's semi-relevant, it's just unhelpful and dumb

the fact is that people don't like it when they feel like others are glorifying themselves, and the reason why people got upset is because that's how you came across. it really had nothing to do with the idea of veganism and everything to do with the way that idea was presented in this specific situation

Actually if someone went into a topic about windows 10 getting a virus and said "More reason to switch to OSX ;)" people would have acted exactly the same as they did in this topic.
It's possible, but I doubt it would happen with NEARLY the same level of vitriol and reliability.

Hey big guy, you know what I did to lose 40 pounds in 6 months? I stopped drinking soda, ate healthier and went outside more. I didn't drop any meat.

I know you're saying going vegan will make you lose weight but it's not a good option to lose weight
Hey, do whatever you want to lose weight. I'm not gonna tell anyone who doesn't want to stop eating meat to stop eating meat, but Veganism is an undeniably effective method of weightloss.

What the hell? No, I posted that a lot of people are insecure about their eating habits, and that is why they react poorly to Vegans. Then you somehow thought I was trying to subliminally call you fat or some BS like that, so I called you paranoid. Chill out, nobody cares how much you weigh.

Maybe you're right, but I've always seen a winky-face as a sign that someone is being playful.

"guess your just not good enough to join" "guess your just not good enough ;)"

One of these is a lot more richardish.

Except nearly every time someone mentions they are vegan or vegetarian, no matter who or where it is, this will happen.

Again this is not a good thing whatsoever

this is what i'm trying to get at, although admittedly i can't think of any way he could have phrased it without sounding pushy/snarky
which is a sign that it shouldn't be posted at all

most people, myself included, see a winky face as taunting
i would be more inclined to hate the dude who wrote the second message, not the first

people in here fightin with zealot and im just trying to get over the fact that over 372 tons of hot and corn dogs exist in oklahoma like

So is bulimia

In hindsight, you're exactly right. But nobody sits there and deeply thinks out everything they say, and as such there's no way to know which are gonna randomly set off the BLF hate-squad. It seems a lot more reasonable to just expect everyone not to overreact and understand that jokes are not serious.

So is bulimia
I've always addressed this exact point. Any diet can be handled horribly.

Any diet can be handled horribly.
You're going back and forth between claiming that veganism is undeniably more healthy than non-veganism (99% of the time!), and then that any diet can be bad based on individual characteristics. The two arguments are mutually exclusive.

guess it depends a lot on the person, but i would generally associate it with cheeky nonsense. and as always, language is highly dependent on context

Except nearly every time someone mentions they are vegan or vegetarian, no matter who or where it is, this will happen.
there's a time and place for everything, and i think it just wasn't really relevant in this topic, especially when it's being argued from a moral standpoint. people probably don't feel great about the idea of having to feel bad for eating food they've been eating their entire life without stigma; it's not a very compelling argument and it'll almost certainly only provoke people regardless of the situation

Yea dude, 99% of the time Veganism is the option for better weightloss. However, it's possible to go from a healthy diet of beef and eggs to a horrible diet of french fries and potato chips. However, that's not very common. This is an extremely simple concept.

I'm gonna step on the gas

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that it's cause he has absolutely no loving clue what he's talking about and his 'lifestyle' is about as impulsive as 99% of his posts.

I want to see what nearly 3,000,000 hotdogs looks like in one spot.

I've always addressed this exact point. Any diet can be handled horribly.
What we're saying is that you're making an irrelevant point. You can lose weight on any diet therefore a vegan diet has no benefit in that regard. On the other side, you could eat a nutritionally balanced vegan diet and still gain weight on it if you're over consuming calories. 4000 calories of broccoli is still 4000 calories. The type of diet you eat isn't anywhere close to as important as just the raw amount of energy you consume. Both sides are just repeating themselves at this point and you still don't seem to, or don't want to, understand.

As a point of curiosity I'd like to see the stuff someone takes after binge eating 4000 calories of broccoli.
