Author Topic: Why does everyone hate Starbound?  (Read 9943 times)

majority of the people really dislike starbound and call it a disappointment but I've never played it before but it looks a bit promising, why do people bash it so much?

I don't really know but I do know a majority of the hate is from the Terraria fan-boys complaining and comparing the two games like idiots

the people who worked on starbound are a bunch of lazy slobs and decided it was okay to spend all of their kickstarter money into office furniture

the new update is pretty good but it definitely wasn't worth waiting all this time to play it.

also you can't even compare starbound to how much terraria has. terraria has an amazing dev team and continue to add awesome content after 5 years. its one of my favorite games on steam

i'm really not quite sure what you're talking about
a lot of people actually like the game, myself included
new update is actually pretty fun to play with a group of friends

I played it a long time ago and it got pretty boring after like, the 3rd planet lol

It's a bit like the negative review section for NBA2k16 on Steam, there are tons of people bashing the game for no reason yet I've been playing it for the past few weeks and there's nothing wrong with it

I've heard about the developers being lazy that's just disgusting and terraria also looks good but I've never played it

I am not trying to say Starbound is a bad game with these opinions. Unfortunately, chuckleforgets keep construing my words so I have to include that disclaimer now.

I have a massive personal distaste of 2D Indie games, and especially ones with that "retro" pixel graphic art-style. I also get really loving irritated by open-ended "games" (it's not a game if there's not a specific end goal, and what Minecraft did is technically cheating). I usually dislike crafting, and I have NEVER enjoyed a survival game (MGS3 might be an exception if you believe it to be such).

Add in the fact the game is called "Starbound" yet the majority of the gameplay happens on planets, AND that this game was designed to be multiplayer-focused (I very rarely enjoy multiplayer games, and most of the time I'll act as a lone wolf when I play with others)...

This isn't a game for me.

look at this thread about everyone complaining about the game

look at this thread about everyone complaining about the game

...10 people out of several others who don't even comment on it?
i'm not quite sure that's 'everyone'

At least this game as 10+ hours of amazing soundtrack instead of like 10 different 3 minute long loops

Terraria's music became extremely annoying after awhile due to how repetitive it is, plus it doesn't sound that great either.

Starbound's music is extremely well made and sets a great atmosphere and emotion when it plays, it's just un-explainable, it's just incredible

Except the recent update added a main story line (whether it is good or not can be debated) and that at the end there IS a final boss that works as the "end goal?"
EDIT: Actually, now that I think about it, how is it that you think you can define what a game is and isn't?

Regardless, I think the game is actually quite good. Sure there are some pretty bad pitfalls in it's design, but overall the game is surprisingly good for being $15.

i've noticed they removed a bit of content in starbound, but they added some stuff in that actually made it more fun. the morphball tech is really fun, the story's actually kind of nice along with the missions you get, it's all really good imo

they'll add more content in the future. nothing's going to disappear FOREVER unless they say it is.

i also still enjoy running around the planets and exploring, and building and whatnot. finding weapons and trying out the special abilities is cool to see.

really, that's my thoughts. i'm not the people that don't like it, and if it's because they miss the content, i'm not really sure what to say. i can't fix that, i'm not the devs. maybe someone will make a mod and readd everything in.

If the creators would be able to wring out as much of the glitches as they can and polish it out, the game would easily be worth 20+ bucks imho, it's just really good

I personally don't like when developers just "add" stories out of the blue, rather than incorporating them from the start.

I get that this is the Minecraft-approach to game development where they just release an alpha build and keep adding to it, with no end of development in sight, but that style of development really loving irritates me.
