Author Topic: What would you like to see in a racing game?  (Read 1640 times)

Speaking of customization and tuning, what do you guys think of the following features?

- Engine Swaping from a car to another, giving your small car the engine your super car has and vice-versa

- Sliders for height and camber, allowing to move the wheels out, giving them camber, and raising or lowering the suspension, the suspension part could affect the car perfomance on bumpy roads.

- Tune any car you like with no limitations of classes, what do I mean by that is take The Crew for example I have a Ferrari 458 Italia there but sadly I can't take it off-road, so why not allowing players to buy different types of tires that can be apllied to any car? For example buying a ferrari, giving it off-road tires, raise the suspension, install a rollcage and rally foglights, and turn it into a sweet rally ferrari.

- Drivetrain conversion, turning any car you want into Front, Rear or All-Wheel drive.

I plan to do these on my game if possible.

there better be tires with absolutely no grip then
i want to slide

Need for Speed Most Wanted is my bar of quality.

  • Arcade-y fun over simulation. I don't want to play a driving simulator which requires me to understand how the loving angle of approach into water and the wind-speed is going to make me forget up. The vehicle's "physics" should be faked for fun.
  • Less time-trial and circuit, more sprints and chases. Loops feel bland and boring, and if the tracks are particularly long, they can really drone on, especially if you fail and have to restart.
  • Gentle rubber-banding. Make the races exciting, but don't force the player to lose because they made one single mistake.
  • Wide selection of cars, aesthetic customisation. Don't focus on practical-customisation. Don't bother letting us change wheel-nuts or choose out different aftermarket suspension packages from a bunch of manufacturers. Leave the performance customisation simple and basic and make it feel as though the player is progressing up in the world through basic levelling, but let us go absolutely nuts with expressing our car with the different body parts, vinyls, accessories and so forth.
  • Allow essential tweaking in the menu. I should be able to adjust stuff like handling, ride height, nitrous boost time and so forth from the menu to find the best setup for me. Every tweak should have a pro and con associated with it.
  • Split-screen, lan and online multiplayer. You have no excuse not to.
  • The world is a character. I know Rockport better than I know my own richard. Make a world with memorable locations and fill that world with character and things to do.
  • Interactive Music. Let the game score my experience. It makes the game sound way more detailed and it makes those intense moments even more epic when the game recognises it.
  • Half the attention to detail comes through the dialogue.Police chatter, commentators, other racers, civilians...the world feels more alive when the people inside it actively respond to EVERYTHING the player does.

Cool and easy drifting like from the need for speed games (rivels for example.) (also rivels is the stufftiest game ive ever played, dont play it)
Blockland car physics for lols
Random generated infinite possibilities of car costumization

Some fun physics. I hate it when I'm playing a racing game and I drive into a wall or another car at 200mph and the game goes KRACKABABADOOSH! but some minor paint scratching is the extent of the damage. Let's get some explosions and twisted metal and smashed windshields and fiery engines and airborne wheels. It sucks when I hit a ramp at 200mph and the car just kinda maintains the orientation it had when it left the ground and is just kinda pulled back to earth in a really boring "no fun to be had here" fashion.

also, speed. slow paced racing games are the worst

Herbie.

(I might be the only one who knows about him ;_;)
Dude Herbie was the stuff who'd forget him

Also OT: maaaybe a boosting system similar to FZero?

ability to put png decals on the cars

i wanna make a jurassic park jeep

I got another fun idea.

Interior Customization, change the steering wheel, seats, strip out the dashboard components and remove backseats (because weight reduction bro) add gauges, add a rollcage, and add stickers and decorations on the dashboard, what do you guys think?

i want dual cup holders

randomized maps
This made me think of self-generated maps.

Like that would be cool
