Author Topic: Microsoft has accidentally leaked its "golden key" to Secure Boot  (Read 3962 times)

The most basic jist I can give is this; for certain devices using a thing called "Secure Boot", there's no way to disable it and it prevents you from installing other operating systems, mainly because in the flawed world of Secure Boot, doing so would allow hackers to install bootkits/rootkits (nasty types of viruses) onto your system. Microsoft has essentially accidentally leaked the code needed to disable Secure Boot, and so hackers now essentially have free access to install rootkits on compatible systems, and it's rumoured that there's no way to permanently fix the issue completely.
Thanks I understand now.

Thanks I understand now.
Now, I'm sure Ipquarx or some other the guys will come around and touch up anything I got wrong; one thing to note is that this will only affect users who have Secure Boot enabled. This mainly affects users with locked-down hardware, so things like phones and tablets. It's actually kind of rare for desktops and laptops to be using Secure Boot as all the hardware components have to be approved and certified or else the PC won't boot.

So if you're using a Windows phone or tablet or other device, you might need to be careful, but everybody else should be fine.

Don't even pull this stuff. Anybody without wool in their eyes knows what you were discussing.

You don't have to get upset with me. I was only talking about the ideal combination of operating systems for people who don't want to use a single less developed and secure OS. Yes, that includes windows 10, but that's also 8/8.1, and I never mentioned either within that post.

ok off-topic from all the argument but can we just all admire the loving jamminest music in this website

When did McJob get so sensitive about operating systems lol

Just to clear up a little confusion, this means that Win10/8/8.1 is equally as secure to rootkits and related malware as Win7 is, not that Win7 is more secure.

hey guys I use linux

Secureboot first appeared in windows 8, so if it makes you feel safer you can go back to 7 which is still fully functional and has been since 2009.
