Author Topic: things that tick you off [not traffic edition]  (Read 11652 times)

People who weave through traffic and go as fast as they want. Also people who don't use their blinkers, tailgaters, greenlight anticipaters, people who can't be bothered to wait for the vehicle in front of them to accelerate to the appropriate speed after a red light etc.

Basically everything that XR-7 is.

people who just inch forward at a red light confuse the f outta me
wat do u think ur doing exactly? u think that makes it quicker or something ?

Some people are so use to the lights in their town that they literally count the time in their head for when it will be over. I've seen some people gun it before the light ever makes it to green. And I've seen people die doing it too. Semi + Camaro = road cabbage

People who roll forward six inches and then stop again

my thinking:

>car in front starts rolling
>Alright, were rolling again
>Into first
>Clutch to friction
>car ahead stops almost immeadiately after doing this
>push clutch back down
>Into neutral

Literally the only time Automatics have an advantage

Ive begun to do this so I can keep rolling and put it in second instead of launching from first again, If im coming up to a light and I know it will be over soon I start stopping way before it so that by time it turns green ill be almost to the intersection and rolling at about 10 mph, just enough to put it in second comfortably, but ive had people get super pissed and floor it to get around me on the right. I always just say, well, there goes a little bit more gas, o yeah and work those brakes, you'll only have to replace them sooner

edit
also with a manual it takes you a bit longer to get going at a light if you fully stop, so I always look sideways and put it in first when the opposing light turns red instead of waiting for green, I don't launch until green though obivously

how often are traffic lights still based on timers alone though

Had someone do this to me in a SUV yesterday. Light turned green and I didn't even get a chance to accelerate before the starfish came darting around me from a spot that he shouldn't have been able to do it in.

In my town, all of them. In a few areas though the results are rather random. Mainly cities. It doesn't discourage peoples idiocy in attempting to read the light times though. I would like it in the future for cars to display how much time is left on a light though at some point.

whenever they're in less populated areas or don't have crosswalks. The timing changes throughout the day, but they are on timers

pretty much all of them where I live use the little sensors in the road. there are a few, I think, that really do just have a regular cycle to them, but not many

Yeah except if I write tickets then I will get a jail
a whole jail? idk man that sounds like a pretty good deal to me

well in Michigan at least the time until yellow is displayed by the crosswalk, there is a little countdown timer on the poles, when it reaches 0 the light turns yellow. Its more for pedestrians but since my brakes are 28 years old I like to know when its turning yellow so I can start to slow down earlier, its a nice touch but its only on the bigger intersections in my town. Seriously though my car has a slow brake fluid leak somewhere that has been constant for the past year. The brakes will stop you, but im afraid to see what would happen in a panic stop situation, im afraid ill pop a line and end up with no brakes. I have had to make one panic stop, I slightly flat spotted some tires when some stupid bitch turned left in front of me, we ended up three inches apart bumper to bumper. She froze in the intersection and locked her brakes the moment she saw me coming instead of going through with it. just like a foxscotch in the headlights. I finally stopped, after laying a 40 foot trail of rubber (I should know how to non abs by now but it takes practice) I could see her face and she had this almost non chalant look on her face like nothing even happened, and then just drove off.

something else I saw: My car has 105 hp (28 years and 296k ago) and a shot 2nd gear synchro, so I cant go from 0-the speed limit in three seconds or less, have some loving patience people, so many times I've had someone get in the other lane and try to pass right after a light, and then end up getting to the next light at the same time. No wonder everybody needs hybrids to save on gas, everybody's a loving lead foot these days. I'd be fine with that too if it helped you get where you're going faster, but all it does is annoy people and make you look like an starfish

Hey hey hey

I use my blinkers

Who people can't understand the concept of not blocking intersections

Coming home from work, I have to cross a stoplight at the highway. Today I had to sit at a green light for like 15 seconds because like 3 or 4 people on the intersecting road decided to enter the intersection at the yellow light when they weren't able to clear it.
Then, my final turn before I get home, I have to make a left turn through an uncontrolled interesection, only a block away from a busy interesection. That one block fills up, and people consistently ignore the big "DO NOT BLOCK INTERSECTION" sign, and drive up right behind the next car when they can't clear the intersection.

I wish this thread stayed just "things that tick you off".
