skyrim has one of those soundtracks that's kind of good but you just never really hear any more than a few battle themes and ambient songs

I think that all depends on what you view as a "good" soundtrack. Would a truly 'good' soundtrack have a decent mix of different types of music? Or could it be really amazing at one thing instead?

Personally, I'd say that Skyrim has some of the best ambient music out there, and for what the game is, it works really well. Skyrim is heavy on the exploration and visiting different locations, and all the ambient music (especially the tracks dedicated to specific areas) really support the game on that front.

I guess you could fault the soundtrack on the lack of combat music, like you mentioned. It's really kinda funny that it has so few combat tracks, honestly. With the game's story and many of the mechanics revolving around combat, you'd think they'd have more in there. I mean at least they could have had a final boss theme in there.

The Talos Principle

Amazing puzzle game with philosophy mixed in. Amazing soundtrack, great replay value with multiple endings and more unique puzzles than you can shake a stick at, and great speedrunning with a high skill cap and interesting glitches if you're into that.

Here's my review of it, no spoilers.

Really liked Bastion, really liked Transistor, but also really really liked Hyper Light Drifter.
The song for the trailer blew me away and still does. I've played it over 200 times on Google Play Music. It is so goddamn beautiful and perfect in every way. It breaks my heart.
Honorable mentions: Ori and the Blind Forest, Starbound

All of Super Meat Boy
All of Dungeons of Dredmor
All of Terraria
All of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth/Afterbirth
And one from World of Goo.

This stuff.
And pretty much everything from the castlevania series.

Too many, but the first one that comes to mind is the Metroid Prime OST

Um actually Team Fortress 2. Love the style of it and the instruments used in its music.

I kinda like the darker music of Dishonored also.

Speaking of Dishonored, we still need a thread about the upcoming sequel to be released 11/11/16. So much hype from me.
