Author Topic: Honestly, forget rap music.  (Read 12097 times)

i shared most of these opinions until i listened to Chance the Rapper. now i spent $100 on a ticket to see him in the white sox stadium in like a week with my friends.

the only song that i've listened to by chance was cocoa butter kisses and i didn't want to hear any more after that
the only rapper i actually kind of like is crank lucas because he's funny

It is infact the peanut house
Peanut Shack?
NUT shack?
No
This is the Testicle Hovel
Get your words right and speak like educated proper people instead of slang-spewing hooligans. My goodness you imbeciles make me scream internally to the point where I would burst my larynx.  I swear such ignorant speaking will make me blow a gasket in my Cerebrum.

Op just mad that rappers got more bands than his broke ass

well yes led zeppelin is on my iTunes and I listen to them but mostly it's

  • Genesis + Peter Gabriel
  • Beatles + Beach Boys (later years)
  • Gorillaz + Muse
  • DMB + Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds live
  • David Bowie
  • Eric Clapton
  • Ian Ethan Case (indie guy)
  • James Taylor + Carole King
  • Pat Metheny and anyone he's worked with (jazz)
  • Richard Thompson
  • Tommy Emmanuel
  • etc.

I think I proved my point I'm gonna stop there

oh and there's some video game soundtracks on there too

and to add most of the people on that list I started to listen to on my own, regardless of whether my dad liked them or not
Oh yes. A brilliant list of musical greats.
Quote
The Beatles "Love Me Do"
[Chorus]
Love, love me do
You know I love you
I'll always be true
So please, love me do
Whoa, love me do

[Bridge]
Someone to love
Somebody new
Someone to love
Someone like you

[Chorus]
Love, love me do
You know I love you
I'll always be true
So please, love me do
Whoa, love me do
Yeah, love me do
Whoa, oh, love me do
Whoa, oh love me do
Why don't you love me do
Clearly lyrical geniuses. Much superior to le hipstuff cRapping of today, right? Lets compare to a song by Kendrick Lamar.
Quote
Kendrick Lamar, "The Blacker The Berry"
Verse 3
I'm the biggest hypocrite of 2015
When I finish this if you listenin' then sure you will agree
This plot is bigger than me, it's generational hatred
It's genocism, it's grimy, little justification
I'm African-American, I'm African
I'm black as the heart of a forgetin' Aryan
I'm black as the name of Tyrone and Darius
Excuse my French but forget you — no, forget y'all
That's as blunt as it gets, I know you hate me, don't you?
You hate my people, I can tell cause it's threats when I see you
I can tell cause your ways deceitful
Know I can tell because you're in love with that Desert Eagle
Thinkin' maliciously, he get a chain then you gone bleed him
It's funny how Zulu and Xhosa might go to war
Two tribal armies that want to build and destroy
Remind me of these Compton Crip gangs that live next door
Beefin' with Pirus, only death settle the score
So don't matter how much I say I like to preach with the Panthers
Or tell Georgia State "Marcus Garvey got all the answers"
Or try to celebrate February like it's my B-Day
Or eat watermelon, chicken, and Kool-Aid on weekdays
Or jump high enough to get Michael Jordan endorsements
Or watch BET cause urban support is important
So why did I weep when Trayvon Martin was in the street when gang banging make me kill a brother blacker than me?
Hypocrite!

These two rappers just talk about loving bitches, getting money, and killing other black people. No trace of addressing social issues like those to lyrically complex songs by the Beatles and Queen.

Tbh if we're going off rhythmic brown townysis, Kendrick Lamar's song is way more interesting than the Beatles' song.

Also, classic rock is full of songs about loving bitches and getting money.

This. Pretty much every hair band/classic rock band made songs about the drugs they did, the parties they had, the women they forgeted, and the money they got.

its not really cherry picking. heres a little challenge for you: find one band or artist that doesnt rap but has lyrics more complex and creative than kanye, kendrick, jcole, french montana or chief keef

i know when a real brother rapping cus i feel that stuff and I FEEL KEEF

OT: it's pretty dumb to write off an entire genre just because of a few songs or artists you've heard. i'm not the biggest fan of rush or dream theater but i don't hate all prog because of that

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cherry_picking

i took two random artists from his list and here are the lyrics from a random hit song of theirs:
Quote
Will You Love Me Tomorrow

Tonight you're mine completely
You give your love so sweetly
Tonight the light of love is in your eyes
But will you love me tomorrow

Is this a lasting treasure
Or just a moment's pleasure
Can I believe the magic of your sighs
Will you still love me tomorrow

Tonight with words unspoken
You say that I'm the only one
But will my heart be broken
When the night meets the morning sun

I'd like to know that your love
Is love I can be sure of
So tell me now and I won't ask again
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow
Will you still love me tomorrow

Quote
Tears in Heaven

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven

Would you hold my hand
If I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand
If I saw you in heaven?
I'll find my way through night and day
'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees
Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven

Would you know my name
If I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same
If I saw you in heaven?
I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven

coincidentally or not they're both repetitive love songs with no more meaning than "love me"

Why didn't you call out OP for generalizing all rap music as garbage? Or for being competely anecdotal without explaining why rap music is objectively bad?

just saying "rap is bad" is silly. disliking shallow music or music you don't like the sound of is understandable, but "rap is bad" is just too big a generalization to justify

"some rap is bad." how's that
