Author Topic: Is the PS Vita any good?  (Read 1964 times)

Sold mine because the range of games was limited, the console ports were horrible to control by comparison to the originals and ultimately I wanted more PC games.
(Sorry for the late reply, I don't tend to keep track of what I comment on very well). I wouldn't expect all console ports to be gems (sorry if this sounds more condescending than I meant it to be).

Honestly I like the PS Vita but I'm a bit more tempted by the Wii U even though I think you can't use it solely without the Wii.

the wii and wii u are entirely seperate things ya know

That and the Wii U isn't a mobile game system. The tablet is just a wireless controller with a screen on it, it has zero game processing components in it, and it has a very limited range too.

It's a good system though, just it isn't a fully mobile one

I know, however I remember someone saying that you would need the Wii console in order for the Wii U to work.

Does it have a wider range of games you can play?

The Wii U console tower and the old Wii tower are completely different things, so no a Wii U tablet doesn't work with a Wii

iirc it has quite a low number of games, but it is backwards compatible with the Wii's games, just you need a nunchuck or the game-pad controller

If you can get a pre-owned Vita in good nick then I say go for it. I love mine; pretty sweet little system with amazing battery life and probably the best hand-held display I've ever seen. It helps that I'm into the type of games that dominate the Vita library but honestly it is a pretty good console, that being said however I certainly wouldn't buy one new or even on sale just because the library can feel somewhat anaemic at times depending on your mood, pre-owned prices though it's a good deal for sure.

Wait for the Nintendo NX to come out and see what it's like. Rumor has it that it's like a portable Wii U with a Tegra x2 chip (which is rumored to be close to the Xbone and Ps4's power)

Ohhhhh I get it. Sorry but I remembered watching a lets play of Lego City Undercover and I thought you needed the Wii console to play it.

I am intrigued to see what Nintendo has done to the NX, but I'm not really interested in getting it. Unless they do something completely unexpected of course.

Yeah I've seen some pretty impressive prices thus far.

Like to put in the most basic way, the Wii u is a Wii with much better hardware, is backwards compatible with older games and controllers, and comes with a tablet controller

The tablet is just that, a controller, so it won't work or game without being in the same room (or about 15 feet) from the Wii U tower itself

The Vita sure as hell is a nice piece of hardware however the library mostly contains of ports and niche Japanese games. If it isn't those two then there's the older PSP and PS1 games on the PSN store, meaning if you're looking for something unique you could only get on a Vita then chances are that probably won't happen.

That said the Vita is fairly cheap these days, so if you do feel interested to play the games on it then I'd say go for it.

I don't blame you for misunderstanding what the Wii U actually was, because frankly the marketing for it was godawful. I knew multiple people then that were confused by the idea of the Wii U and thought it was another addon like the Kinect and Move all because they failed to market it properly as an actual new console.

Wait, why.
you have two options for games:

Platformers and JRPGs

Honestly I'm not that interested in the PSP or the PS1. As I said before the only game I would get a PS4/PS3 for is a GranTurismo game. Otherwise I'm not to interested in the PlayStation series.

If I remember correctly the Wii U had a very rough start as you said.

Got it.
