Author Topic: should cyberbulling/bullying be a criminal offense?  (Read 5027 times)

but thats still vague. some soft pusillanimous individual kid can kill himself over being called a noob.

well of course if the homi/Self Delete was linked to an online peer there would have to be an investigation to see if they really were harassing them or whatever enough to be considered guilty

The judge. Kind of like every other criminal case...
Weird that's kinda the jury's job in some cases

If you bully someone in a way that breaks the law (harassment, assault, ect.) then you will be prosecuted anyway, yes? I feel like a new set of laws concerning bullying is redundant considering that federal law has most bases covered in that regard

Unfortunately the term "cyberbullying" much like "Racism" and "loveism" has been devalued due to overuse.

If cyberbullying was defined as the following:

Purposefully using communication devices with malicious intent to incite physically harmful consequences.

Then yes I would agree, but the actual definition has more to do with hurt feelings and less to do with actual malicious intent.

These would be things I define as 'Cyber Bullying"

Attempting to drive someone to Self Delete, through harassment using communication devices.
Attempting to destroy someone's livelihood through harassment using communication devices. (SJWs I'm looking at you on this one.)

only if they intentionally incite physical harm like Self Delete or a mass shooting or something
kill yourself >:^[

only if they intentionally incite physical harm like Self Delete or a mass shooting or something

yes it should be.
i hate these bullies.

No. It's a slippery slope that should not be traversed.

now i guess it is worth mentioning that people can be punished for these things in civil court without it necessarily being a criminal offense. people can sue others for emotional damages, parents can sue people if their child commits Self Delete, etc. things that are already criminal in communication (like harassment and threats) will remain criminal even over the internet just as they would over the phone or in person.

I'd like to see them try to arrest everyone on the internet.
