Fascism lost too though.
National Socialism was a very precise ideology tailored to the time and place it originated. It's main goal was to lift Germany into a position of world power and revitalize traditional institutions. It failed at its one task. Fascism and nationalism are more general concepts and saying that they lost is a bit like saying that "democracy is the loser in China." in that it's not a contribution to the discussion.
I follow Ayn Rand until she says essentially that elderly people and the handicapped should be left to die. Everyone has the same worth regardless of disability.
While I am pretty much the opposite of her politically at least she stayed true to her beliefs even when they stopped benefiting her. That's more than I can say about many of the people I oppose politically.
Anyway, equality is a false god. It's a myth. How you treat a person should be based on the utilitarian consequences of that treatment, something which varies from person to person and situation to situation.
2 things
1) im costing my parents, not myself. they're giving me this free ride and i'm squandering it when it could be saved for my sister who is much younger than me
I mean if you yourself are admitting its not optimal then I don't really need to argue with you on this point.
2) what's wrong with the state funding arts? [...] english and writing and pure art and good social skills have a place in the world.
Art can be made in a manner that does not present an opportunity cost to the state.
its funny given how important good design aesthetic is important in any good software. please don't be one of those programmers who falls into that self-limited view of the world where its either logical/utilitarian or its nothing.
I'm aware of the importance of graphical design in making and marketing software. That said I'm happy to use things like console commands where possible. This isn't a political view mind you, just habit.
have you read ayn rand? her entire shtick is about the smartest people in society running society for the good of the society. except its never as simple as she makes it out to be.
its literally "dont bully the nerd because he'll be your boss one day" except taken to the nth degree
She was an objectivist. She denies any connection to libertarianism but to the lay man it's quite similar. You ever see one of those two-axis political charts? I don't think those are the best way to represent politics but I'd be in the center-top whereas she'd be in the bottom-right.
