problem: defining human in an era where sentient robotics are right around the corner
easy. homo-sapiens.

eat it, robos.

if a robot is sentient then it must also have equal rights

that was fast

if a robot is sentient then it must also have equal rights
Oh god this again.

As far as I'm concerned, the DAPL issue is pretty much solved at this point. But needless to say, if you're siding with the people blasting Native American protestors with fire hoses in subzero weather, you're on the wrong side of history and will look like an starfish when your grandkids read in the history books about the crazy stuff you supported.

As a North Dakota resident, there's still two sides to this. There are plenty of peaceful protesters, and they're all protesting on the lands not owned by the Army Corps of Engineers.

Then there's radical protesters, ones that are violently pushing the police forces and NatGuard. By violently, I mean legitimately throwing rocks, trying to tip vehicles over, and creating roadblocks on certain roads in and out of Bismarck and the territory itself. Also, a small camp was raided and they found propane and methane bombs in the making, otherwise known as IED's.

The use of rubber bullets and water hoses to clear out the radicals is fair enough to me if you're going to try and harm NatGuard or the police themselves. I'm all against the pipeline entering the Standing Rock territories, but violently pushing out a neutral party is no way to handle it.

whew lad

uh, could I get a source on that? I've been following the story pretty closely and I don't see anything about that when I search for it.

Yeah that seems like a fairly significant story so source please

I'm sure that there's been a handful of incidents of people getting violent, but by and large, the protest is peaceful and the brutality has affected the peaceful protesters. The ones getting hit with fire hoses are not tipping over cars, and there's a highly publicized incident where both a journalist and a small child were shot by police w/ rubber bullets.

Yeah that seems like a fairly significant story so source please
Nah, he's telling the truth. Here's an unedited photo of the half-made propane bomb found at the protest camp:

absolutely unsurprising

we should deport oil and ban native americans

Officers saw someone roll metal cylinders to the protesters by the burned vehicle, Lieutenant Iverson said, and then heard an explosion. Afterward, he said, several protesters ran up, pulled a woman from under the vehicle and ran off. Three propane canisters were recovered from the vicinity of the explosion early Tuesday, he said.

Lt. Iverson says after the cylinders were rolled, law enforcement witnessed an explosion. Several protesters ran to the area, pulled a female from under the vehicle, and fled the scene.

Law Enforcement received information that protesters were using one-pound propane cylinders as explosives and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation with support from Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms recovered three of these propane canisters from the site of the explosion.

Also yes, they are a handful, but they're still there and need to be understood.
If I remember correctly, they were in a hot zone where the protests were getting violent, and were also unauthorized. Casualties with rubber bullets will happen. You'll live. Also, the "small child" wasn't actually a small child, it was a 13 year old girl. The question you should be asking isn't why they were getting shot, it's why the forget did some parents bring, or let their child go to this protest on unauthorized land.

Another less useful source is myself. I keep in contact with two NatGuard personnell who were activated and ordered there for peace keeping operations.
