Author Topic: best mechanical keyboard switch (FINAL VOTE)  (Read 10418 times)

i dont understand the difference between them

The best one is the buckling spring as seen in the Model M, of course.
However, Cherry MX switches like the reds are good as well if you don't have the money to buy a Model M (they're typically very expensive). The two types of switches are completely different from each other, but they're both good.

reds are overrated
anything that makes a clack louder than a ak-47 is better than any other keyboard
hands down

wait people actually like reds

wait people actually like reds

yes?

i dont want clicky or bumpy stuff on wasd keys

reds for gaming all the way

i dont understand the difference between them

buy a test kit and try them all

they all feel different

I have a Topre board and a Matias Linear board and I like both of them a lot. I've tried Cherry MX Red and Blue. I liked the Reds, but they were noticeably scratchier than my Matias Linears. I kinda liked using the Blues but the hysteresis of the clicky mechanism kinda kills the experience for me. I really want to try out the other Matias switches on a keyboard and possibly some of the older Complicated ALPS switches, those seem to be pretty good.

My nomination currently goes to Topre, even though they're technically not mechanical. Doh, I didn't read the topic thoroughly. If it's gaming we're talking about, my nomination would probably go to Cherry MX / Gateron Red, maybe Gateron Clear but I've never tried those.

i've heard a lot of people say gateron reds are smoother than cherry reds but tbh they really both feel the same to me

it just feels like the actuation on gateron's are less than cherry's

i def prefer gateron's blues to cherry's blues though, they just feel so much more high quality, it almost seems like cherry's are muffled or less responsive

also topre would count as a nomination, im putting in anything that isnt gay membrane stuff

maybe i would if it wasnt 16 bucks for just like six keys. thats obsurd

Cherry MX Brown is my personal favorite. I'm not a big fan of overly loud keyboards.
