Author Topic: [NEWS] turn off your alexa devices.  (Read 6091 times)

yah i miss the time when we had megabyte hard drives and dial up internet those were the days
dont forget floppy disks

damn I thought it would be something more serious
alexa disabled our wifi

says tony, as he types from his computer capable of displaying 1080p High definition video at 60 frames per second while also using internet fast enough to display a webpage in under a full second.

My computer was made before cheap asian industrialists thought of cheap stuffty ways to develop stuffty technology like alexa and market it for dumb consumers.

I mean, you should know Alexa does stuff like this because it is on the loving directions.  We use Alexa all the time for news and music.

would you be more inclined to use Alexa if it had a man's voice?

This is worse than that time people could say "Xbox, log out" over game chat and the Kinect would register that command

technology is really stuff these days.

>Glitch in the system where AI misinterprets your voice to order items from online market
>"Man, technology sure has gotten stuffty these days!"

You are funny man

It's not a loving glitch in the system, a glitch is something that wasn't meant to happen in the program.

This was literally loving programmed to work with any voice. The order options are even set on by default.

Why the forget is auto-purchase enabled? That's loving handicapped. Alexa should still request confirmation before it pays; what if it gets the wrong item, or what if you want to browse from the different storefronts and find one at the best price for the quality you want?

Stupid idea.
yo uh I don't think you've used it and/or fully thread the article because Alexa always asks for confirmation. I think they got complaints just because they set off so many to request purchase, or maybe they confirmed the purchase on-air which confirmed it for the houses.

you're right on that first part, all i've heard about alexa is that you can buy things from amazon super quickly.
but they still sound useless, most smartphones can do all that and more without the risk of accidentally buying 5001 cans of soda
uhh, i dunno man, my smartphone cant pull up any song by having me say "Alexa, play X" or immediately pull up a specified Pandora channel. I set one up in our kitchen and its pretty sweet as a customized radio that you can ask questions and change the volume/song just by speaking to it.

So I accidentally got a dragon carrot added to the shopping list of my bf's family last time I visited them

that was fun

Always getting smarter and adding new features
people willingly purchase this stuff? sounds like something straight out of a communist's wet dream. they would force it in everyone's home so they can monitor people under the guise of introducing (((smart technology))) to make people's lives more (((streamlined))). yes goy listen to the news that we-- i mean alexa has chosen for you to hear! let alexa take care of the "small" tasks so you can focus on your work! don't forget to buy the new alexa security camera 5 pack! is it really worth almost 180 dollaroos just to do the same thing you could already do on literally any computer or smart phone (even though those have been compromised too)? "always getting smarter," jesus christ could they be any more obvious? one day it'll be your dumb voice controlled radio, one update later and it's transmitting everything you and your family say to the ministry of truth and you're hanged the next day for suggesting to watch a movie on dvd instead of amazon prime.

it automatically discards anything you say that's not following the key word "alexa," it only learns off of what you say to her, not what you say in general

it still uploads personal data to amazon's servers. you'd have to be a serious technocuck to sell yourself to a black cylinder

that's what they want you to think, how can you tell if it isn't listening to you or not? did you take it apart yourself to make sure or do you have faith that big brother amazon would never do something like that for the sake of profit and government gibs me dats? it's "always connected to the cloud," in other words just another computer, how do you know what happens to all that data once it's on someone else's computer? it wouldn't be far fetched to assume that they'll keep a lot of that data to "make alexa smarter," as they would put it (as they turn around to sell the rest), regardless if it was spoken to or not. what if amazon came out with one of those "new features" that is an (((always listening))) mode that can't be turned off (of course implying it isn't already always recording you)? do you think people would put their foot down and say, "no what the forget amazon," or would they deal with it and say, "i have nothing to hide?"
