i managed to get linux running on a vm and got steam and half life two installed
is it just a vm thing that hl2 runs like stuff?

Most likely. Graphic performance tends to be pretty stunted in VM's.

This is why I keep a spare Arch usb stick around. If all else fails, I still have something to boot from to fix things. I've even repaired non-booting Windows installs like this.

I store mine on my phone. It works well, and I have it everywhere.

i have mines on a old purple thumbdrive now
its really dark purple so i know its important if i forget what it is
