Author Topic: Anyone know a good server renting service for under $7 a month?  (Read 1840 times)

/title

I'm looking for a good server hosting service that lets me get full access to a VM for under $7 a month, so I can host games on it. Mostly Unturned, Minecraft, and perhaps StarMade and Blockland as well.

Only ones i've found online cost like $40-$100 a month for machines with decent hardware, way outside my price range. other ones are dirt cheap but with absolutely garbage 1998-tier hardware:
https://www.1and1.com/vps-hosting
https://lowendbox.com/
https://virmach.com/windows-remote-desktop-vps/
https://www.digitalocean.com/

Is there any good middle ground around for good server/VM hosting?

Requirements:
  • Must be on the USA, east coast
  • Must be under $7.00 a month
  • Must have at least 8 GB of RAM, and at least four good CPU cores
  • Must have at least 50 GB of drive storage space

You're not funny

Literally not gonna happen.

The only $7 a month plans I know of are single game shared hosting.

Well there's gameservers.com but isn't 500mb enough for hosting a server? I mean 8gb is a bit too much, no?

you don't need a VPN with specs as good as a desktop to only run dedicated servers. you can almost certainly get by with much less than you've specified here

as for recommendations, i used https://www.nfoservers.com/ for a while and they were really cool (i had very good experiences with support and their tools are pretty nice), though their prices may not be the best iirc

pick one

not supposed to be funny? your request is obviously absurd. you're asking for some kind of a magic trick. you're not gonna get what you're asking for from anyone and I can't imagine why on earth you think you will. however if you're willing to settle (if you're not, it doesn't matter, cus you don't have a choice), linode has some great plans for good prices, particularly the $10 and $20 plans, or the newly added $5 plan. they have servers in atlanta so that takes care of the only reasonable requirement you specified. they're actually charged by the hour with a monthly cap, so if you only need it at certain times or on certain days you can actually disable it for the times you don't need it and wind up paying a little less

I have no experience with renting servers, so pardon me for not knowing about the ridiculous price gouging in the server hosting market.

hm yeah, that does sound better. thanks for the tip. i might just do their $10 plan. sounds a heck of a lot more reasonable than the other hosting services.

You've gotta get a VPS. I hosted a 24/7 gmod TTT server + a website + a teamspeak for $4.99 a month.

However, since Windows costs money, the cheaper VPS hosts will be powered by Linux. Many games have Linux ports of their servers but it's not guaranteed. Wine runs Blockland very well so that probably won't be an issue.

What's a VPS? How is it different from a VM?

Virtual private server
Basically
Upload files via ftp
Exec file somehow
Profit

What about Unturned?

Going to reiterate everyone elses thoughts and note that your price expectations are unrealistic for those specs

I just need a machine powerful enough to host an unturned server on without any issues
