I doubt this is very legal. After all, Disney still has the rights to Club Penguin and are actively using it in a mobile game.

A Private server like Toontown Rewritten is "okay" because Disney has actively abandoned the game/IP for now. If they were to suddenly pick it back up for a mobile game or something TTR would probably be in deep stuff.

Besides, didn't another Club Penguin private server get nuked a while ago for stuff-talking Disney and advertising their server on Twitter?

Club Penguin Rewritten didn't stuff-talk Disney and didn't claim any sort of copyright.

it doesnt have to do with claiming assets or copyright. if disney allows this to stay, then any other game can start using cp assets and point to this game if they're sued and say "why didnt you shut down this group then??"

it boils down to whether or not disney wants to enforce their ip strongly. they will have to respond if this gets too big though

It's pretty much just reviving a game they've dropped, I mean yeah Disney can choose to sue but they can also choose to sue the people who made Toontown Rewritten, the ytechnically still own it.
