I would disagree. Both might inspire a culture of rebellion and racism, but one actually commemorates the deaths of many. I think it is good to remove the monuments, but not the memorials. Removing memorials might
feel good to those on the left, but it doesn't
do good.
The west applauded when Turkey and Iran became secular and intellectual states in the mid to late-20th century, and they abolished cruel, archaic and punitive laws at the time. In this case, it
does good.
