Author Topic: [NEWS] Confederate monuments are being torn down in the South  (Read 13138 times)

it's new orleans, I'd be surprised if the statues weren't already ultra forgeted up from the already-present hoodrat populace in the city. also sorry can't read the article right now, but aren't the statues going to a musuem or something?

also op way to have a misleading title, you made me think there was some type of widsespread removal program in the southern U.S. regions

The monuments were severely damaged in the process. They used a jackhammer which broke engraved text.

there is
from what I've heard there's plans to take down several more statues of confederate figureheads later in the week

Wait hang on are we talking monuments or memorials here?

Wait hang on are we talking monuments or memorials here?

both are equally important

Wait hang on are we talking monuments or memorials here?
its a combination of both. for example, one that was removed in the article was originally a memorial to people who died in an uprising in the area. they later changed the actual script on it to say "honoring people who were lost on both sides of the fight, so that it may never happen again" or something along those lines

I'm particularly appalled at the lack of respect for history here

"but muh white supremasseeeeeeeeeeee-"

the Japanese internment camps are kept up, and so is Auschwitz, why can't these be kept up?
because they make you uncomfortable? too bad, just move
because they inspire tribals? no they don't, not anymore, that stuff's been moved online
because it honors tribals? too bad, they did a lot of good (or bad) to get made into a monument while you do jack stuff working at home and sipping your Starbucks like a loving weeb
you could argue that everyone who's ever been made into a statue has had discriminatory tendencies, but you wouldn't dare ask that every single statue everywhere be taken down, so sit the forget down and keep sipping that latte friend, it's time you learned your nation's goddamn loving history

Christ that kinda turned into a rant didn't it
Auschwitz and the internment camps were kept up as a symbolic reminder to never forget the victims of those events, because that's where the victims were held. nobody in their right mind would keep up a statue praising Riddler / the national socialists, the aggressors, because its loving outrageous to glorify them. in case you yourself don't know stuff about history, the confederacy wasnt the victim of the civil war, so there's no reason to glorify their place in history at all. the fact that you think some southerners fighting tooth and nail to keep actual human beings enslaved is anywhere near as worthy of recognition as the victims of the holocaust is ridiculous.

nice line about the latte, though. being conservative totally makes you a tough guy.

both are equally important
I would disagree.  Both might inspire a culture of rebellion and racism, but one actually commemorates the deaths of many.  I think it is good to remove the monuments, but not the memorials.  Removing memorials might feel good to those on the left, but it doesn't do good.

The west applauded when Turkey and Iran became secular and intellectual states in the mid to late-20th century, and they abolished cruel, archaic and punitive laws at the time.  In this case, it does good.

they're all in new orleans though, right?

unless the memorials are commemorating the slaves, they're not really important

b-but conservatism is the new punk rock!!

[NEWS] Obama seen carrying confederate monuments torn down in New Orleans and using them as surfboards in Hawaii

Don't want to be an American idiot, one nation controlled by the media.  Information age of hysteria.

I don't think those are glorified nearly as much as Confederate monuments in the South...
