Author Topic: how do you guys think we could get more people to play blockland?  (Read 6391 times)

youtube channels that are known for doing other games doing a miniseries on the chill side of bl
I feel like a few things need to happen:

1. people need to stop bitching and actually make good servers
2. a popular or semi-popular youtube/twitch personality plays blockland on one of these good servers
3. the good servers need to be kept open and new server ideas should be encouraged
even if this happened some forgetwit would start loving with them and turn them away from Bl

they'd still attract a lot of people willing to give it a try

already happened :^^^)

Real way to get players back on blockland: Host DMs, TDMs, RPGs and mechanically inciting servers. The problem isn't a lack of players, but a lack of eye-catching servers. There's probably 200 people online, but maybe 200+ more people who scan the masterlist every day for servers and just leave because nothing catches their interest.

Use clickbaity names, all caps or {DRUGS} or whatever the hell makes your server stand out.

I think that the lack of "start-up" content is what turns most new users away.
We need more interesting Gamemodes and more people dedicated to hosting them.

{DRUGS} HIGH SCHOOL love RP (NO GIRLS ALOUD)

lord tony isn't hostile at all, disagreeing with his post content and beliefs isn't a reason for him to be banned. Pretty hypocritical to say everyone should change to be yelling for someone to be banned for no reason while saying everyone else should be "more positive and less divisive."
i actually think that people like you should be banned because you're one of the needlessly mean and vitriol spewing starfishs on this forum that make people not want to be here.
but hey, that's just my opinion

this, this is the reason I why don't play Blockland anymore is because the servers for while don't really seem that interesting or fun, so I seem to open the game and then just close it after looking at the serverlist.

i found out about blockland through an ad on some flash game site back in december 2007

@those who bitch about people not making good servers

blockland isn't running on any standards you know (standards like USB, not like quality)

blockland started off with issues going with torquescript, but lua wasn't a standard at the time so it was no big deal.
but when lua started catching on, badspot should have put work into converting torquescript into lua instead of playing the fools game with removing interiors and terrain, because let's be real here: interiors and terrain didn't look very bad (also you didn't see garry's mod remove theirs even though it looked kind of similar) AND not much was accomplished in the eyes of the end user by removing it (the slate configuration menu and maaaayyybbbbeeee teledoors?)
one last thing is the goddamn restrictions on those who actually know torquescript preventing you from being able to do a lot of things that would've been easy in roblox/gmod. one example is poor support for client side scripts so you have to make people download an entire addon just to do decent UI changes that aren't text based.

its not that torquescript is BAD, it's that people actually know lua and people hate handicapped restrictions.
99% chance we wouldn't be sitting here today with no content if we had those 2 things in a decent time frame.

so you're blaming the lack of good servers on... blockland not using lua??

There are plenty of good server ideas that are possible without much scripting knowledge.  I really think it's just a lack of server retention more than anything.
