Author Topic: Warhammer 40k Thread: Now featuring the Adeptus Restartes!  (Read 3265 times)

This is a thread for general discussion about Warhammer 40K. Anything goes, from debates regarding the fluff to more specific things like the tabletop or 40K novels. Note that for discussions for things like new or upcoming 40K games, it might be worth to check if there isn't a thread in other games

Some superhandy links:

-The 40K wiki
-Lexicanum, another 40K wiki, is more complete than the previous for certain topics
-1d4chan, also a 40K wiki, but much less serious and very tongue-in-cheek
-40K Lore in a minute (youtube video)

Thread rules.
Read 'em, learn 'em, love 'em.

1) Keep faction fanboyism to a minimum. This includes bashing another faction or incessantly promoting your own. Giving critique of a faction, or giving your opinion of why you do or don't like something is fine, but try to ensure your stay coherent and make actual arguments, instead of just spouting empty propaganda.

2) Resize large images. You can resize images by adding "width=x" to the image tag. For example: [img width=500]. If you only give a width, it will also change the height to keep the image in proportion.

So Primaris Space Marines have been causing a stink recently within the WH40k fanbase. Some hate them for their "handicapped lore" and others praise them because now they'll get better scale space marines.

What do y'all think of this new development?

a space marine... inside... a space marine.

oh neat, i've always been wanting a warhammer TDM but no one's made anything yet.

I think the Skitarii are really cool, they're some sort of cool cyborg monk soldiers who worship technology.

I don't know much about 40k, only the most basic lore and factions. I'm poor and can't afford the figures, nor have I the time to learn how to paint em, but if I could chose a figure it would be either a Predator/Baneblade, a big tyrannid or any kind of aircraft.

apparantly event horizon (movie from 1997) has been seen as kind of a prequel to this series. that movie still gives me a visceral reaction of fear because I saw it when I was like 5 years old and it goddamn terrified me. If I originally  saw it today I probably wouldn't care but the association with the first time I saw it makes me super uncomfortable every time I think about it

btw if you're squeamish you might not want to google it because the gore is loving DISGUSTING. probably the nastiest imagery of any movie I've ever seen

in 40k, FTL involves tearing a rift open and flying through a dimension full of malevolent psychic entities
in event horizon, the characters respond to a distress signal from a prototype FTL ship on its maiden voyage after a malevolent psychic entity influences everyone on board to do terrible terrible things to each other
the art direction is also pretty similar

I like how it's considered by everyone that travelling through the warp with all of it's warp daemons made of rape is a better alternative to the other methods of FTL travel they experimented with

The good ol emps tried to NOT use the warp by making some webway experiments, but like all things in life, loving HORUS HAPPENED.

What are the best miniatures/best way to practice painting? I plan on starting to play sometime in the next few months, and Imperial Guard looks the most appealing.

Easiest to paint would be space marines, because they have large amounts of simple, smooth surfaces. Daemons are easy to paint if you don't care too much about detail, since it's mostly one color.

Space Marines are rad and I'm also considering playing them. I have an idea for a process that I can use with my airbrush and I would like some input:

Primer (Mr Surfacer 1200/Tamiya Fine) -> Light solid colors (Skin etc.) -> Mask light colors (Liquid mask, tape) -> Dark solid colors -> Hand paint details -> Topcoat (Mr Super Clear, Pledge)

I'm coming from a model making background and I'm not too sure if its applicable to miniature painting.
