since you were farther from the explosion, you recover and get up before tom does. you see the burning husk of the car, and you figure you dont have much time to rig the scene so you can get away and marry your girlfriend.
you pick up your gun, and walk over to tom. as he groans, you shoot him in the head, then put the gun in the dead queer's hands
you also take out tom's gun, fire it once into the air, then put it in his hands. make it look like a shootout, since you cant marry your gf if you're in jail.
after a couple hours doing paperwork and stuff giving a full debriefing of how the queer man took your gun from you and shot tom when you approached him, you drive back home and make plans to propose to your gf. around noon all available police officers are called to handle a bank robbery with hostages, and later to handle an incident at the local nuclear power plant.
late in the evening, you suddenly get ushered out of your home by soldiers and doctors in thick lead suits.
apparently the nuclear power plant just outside of town suffered a meltdown and you and everyone else in the town has been exposed to lethal doses of radiation. the entire county had to be evacuated and apparently it was a terrorist attack.
you see on fake news network FNN that scientists were calling the incident 10 times worse than chernobyl. president trompf vows to avenge the casualties suffered, but you cant do much more than listen since your skin is falling off and you're vomiting every other hour.
you are hospitalized and unfortunately die of severe radiation poisoning after a few days.
Unfortunately instead of peace in heaven, you find yourself eating a cream cheese bagel sitting in your squad car. hm.
