Yeah it's not like the were absolutely insane and murdered anyone that they thought disagreed with them.
I'm not going to claim to know what it was like in Catalonia, though a few people who lived long enough to recollect it decades later
described it as a utopia, but I would guess, without having yet implemented a system to tame these militias, some paranoid groups would emerge to attack people who side with countries who are attacking them with military force. Despite the obvious fact that there would be no need for those militias if the conflict did not exist, society would likely have been stable enough to dismantle those militias, had it not been unstable.
