It kind of started with skins, then matchmaking, then the outing of community servers. The basic mold of what CS:GO boils down to at this point.
it's really not, though
while it may have skins and matchmaking and no community servers, it doesn't have
- a proper competitive mode
- any valve sponsored tournaments
- constant updates
- popular streams/twitch events
- updates that actually improve the game (most as of recent have not really done rebalancing)
- competent developers (most updates are buggy and require a fix a day or 2 later)
