Bricks run really slow on normal computers.
So if you arrage them into octogans they grow faster.
Kompressor was a dude who took care of the octtrees and made them grow.

is there a reason 8 is king here? or is that just a fancy name and three can be an indiscriminate number of branches?

Real answer:
At any given point on a one dimensional line you can go either left or right. That's two directions for one dimension.
For a two dimensional square you can go to the upper-right, upper-left, lower-right, lower-left. That's four directions for two dimensions.
For a three dimensional cube you can go in 8 such directions. Upper-left-inward, upper-left-outward, upper-right-inward...
Eight -> oct.

So there ya go

well for one, im going to use an alternate master server so badspot wont complain like a whiny ass.

and, im going to add any missing animations or elements, such as the death animation which was nonexistent.
yeah let's just stuff on badspot because if someone from the current version joins your server they will 100% crash, logic.

also have fun with the legal issues and the code, pretty messy to put time into

oct tree gro big

I'd like to point out that this is probably the 26th attempt at "bringing back old blockland". may I ask why? nothing about the game was fundamentally different than it is today. if you want maps, people should invest more time in static shapes and maps. it's a great implementation to the current game and has way more potential than what's being used. if you want mini-figs, here and here. if you want the old limitations and "realism", disable every brick pack released after version 8 and remove the event feature. Alpha Blockland isn't even that fun in my opinion, it's clunky and outdated.

Im not just slapping new textures onto it, im actually editing the code somewhat. so what? i prefer the old version of blockland, so what?
installing lego playertypes isnt essentially reviving v0002. Maps have been removed already, dont you remember? of course, blockland classic mod exists, but that uses a mix of the blockhead character design and the minfig model, which in my opinion looks like total monkey bollocks.

I'm trying to bring back a classic version of a game, and youre stuffting all over my idea. forget you.
Oh dear... Blockland Classic Mod mixed the old and new because it would make a new experience of playing. It's also upgraded to the latest Torque Game version.

Have fun with the limited engine of TGE 1.1. Blockland Classic Mod is also the most stable v0002 mod without crashes and has many stuff to offer. Torque Game Engine 1.1 is missing a lot like the detailTexture which make the terrains really old. If I compare BCM to this, you will never come that far.

I've been experimenting with Torque since 2009 and still today I'm learning a lot of new stuff but way faster now. You'll discover that once you want to remake a Retail feature like the BitmapButtonCtrl, the feature doesn't exist in Vanilla. BitmapButtonCtrl is for using image buttons like the Retail menu.

If I were you you should play around with Torque 3D.

if you want mini-figs, here and here.

the links are broken on Sp0nge80b's release.

the web adress "justfilehosting.space" DOES NOT EXIST.

try to replicate terrain with staticshapes. try to make staticshapes have the same shading, lighting and shadows as earlier versions. try to make vehicle physics not loving puke or require the client to download like 2000 individual collision shapes just for vehicles to phase through them anyway

and don't forgetin throw brick terrain at me - it looks great and definitely looks better then old terrain but the performance effect is huge (it takes so loving long to ghost on a server, also), good luck getting a vehicle to ever drive on it and the amount of time it takes manually placing each brick compared to using the mission editor's brush tools is a huge difference

I'm not sure if anyone wants terrain though. Remember how awful it was to build on?
