Author Topic: YouTube temporarily shuts down conservative channels "accidentally"  (Read 10208 times)

it feels like youtubes approach to "making money off your content" is crushing them. what was just a video hosting site and literally nothing else is now this like, tv-esque family friendly haven for advertisers

which actually isnt a family friendly haven for advertisers because theres like, 6 million hours of footage uploaded to youtube every day. 6 million hours every single day. there is no way youtube can actually manage all that. i genuinely dont think youtube can moderate that kind of traffic, UNLESS they just start hiring. like, no background checks, no experience checks, just hire anyone you can that remotely fits the field so that we can meet this un-meetable demand as soon as possible

which inevitably leads to youtube hiring moderators that have hardcore agendas, have no problem abusing their power, and will do so until youtube stops them, which youtube most likely cant, or rather, cant do often enough because they have to break even which they cant do if advertisers dont feel like they can advertise there

it feels like an unfortunate downward cycle for youtube. things like this will just 'accidentally' happen again until youtube finally collapses under its own weight. it happened when that one moderator put logan pauls Self Delete forest video on number 1 trending, it happened with this silence of conservative media, it will happen to the next big thing that gets people titties in a twist...... i wOnDeR wHaT wIlL hApPeN nExT 0.o

As much as I disagree with the right-wing-channels, this is bad.
it's actually good

just fire susan already

You don't hire humans for that, there's no way.
You automate whatever you can though various AI algorithms.

I still say my first post is a viable theory:
Maybe some gun control advocates were responding to pro-gun videos by flagging them as "promoting violence" or something stupid like that

If you have a video with a relatively high flag-to-view ratio, your algorithm goes "hey, something may be off with this video, let's remove it until a human can review it" and then maybe those new moderators got lazy and just went "eh, sure" and went with the algorithm's decision

I think it makes sense to me as a theory
It makes technological sense to be, as a software developer.
And it still allows conservatives so shout "them darn liberals trying to censor us!"

Just remember, its bad to not bake a cake for a gay wedding but its a-ok to ban differing viewpoints because "private businesses can do whatever they want"

One thing that would probably be for the better is that strikes are not applied instantly, giving the channel the chance to appeal them before they're applied, except in very extreme cases(CP, gore, ect). I don't know why anyone on either side would be opposed to this. Innocent until proven guilty and right to a trial/hearing or something like that.

The difference between a mom-and-pop bakery and Alphabet's services is massive though.

You can boycott a bakery. You can't really effectively boycott a company as big as Alphabet.

School is turning this generation into communists. The american school system forces you to think inside the box since it was designed during the inudstrial age. Meanwhile you got """"""""""Jobs"""""""""" That encourage creativity.

Also enjoy your freedom

Yeah, totally. I found it absolutely bizarre that people were immediately punished and then later unpunished because 'oops, my bad'. And it happens in every single case.

if google and youtube want to ban differing points of view, it's 100% within their power as a private corporation to do so

maybe we should revoke all government funding if they want to do that
