they got some good maps they were gonna show, like the borealis and some others. I'm linking videos of all the maps that were going to be shown there. pretty cool stuff.

I could be wrong but IIRC this is the reason they ended up not bringing HL2 to E3.
they also lured the guy (who I think was German) on to U.S. territory so he could be arrested.

The leak happened about a year after E3 2002. This version of the game was never shown off because Gabe Newell didn't like how it was turning out. Cutscenes were dragged out, physics weren't being shown off, just kind of boring in general, etc.

Sorta. The game was set to come out in September of 2003, shortly after the beta leak happened. Turns out the game was maybe only a third of the way complete, so they pushed it back and redid the whole thing.

oh cool. i had a feeling i got it wrong. i haven't looked heavily into the history of half life 2 in a long time.
