Maybe we need more pinned topics about joining a forum that require a key to a game they haven't bought yet.

I still don't understand the point of this. All I feel this does is drive more potential players away from the game.
"Oh, my posts here on the Steam discussion forums will be ignored? Well I don't want to sign up for some random website I've never heard of for a game I'll probably play for 10 minutes, guess I just won't bother playing at all if I can't get any help for potential problems."
Now, if it were just one thread with "Visit the official forum here" and then the rest of the helpful topics on the first page instead of the mess it currently it, I feel it'd be better.

I understand moderating the steam forums is a complete mess.

But you only need 1 sticky topic stating that only official support will be based on the official forums.
